A/N: This was going to be a drabble, but then my mind just ran away with it so its a short little oneshot instead.
Its based on something thats actually happened to me...
No spoilers, very angsty.
For Gwen, the break up had been devastating. She gave everything she had to Arthur- her heart, her soul. Then he destroyed her; shattered her heart into a thousand, pain riddled pieces.
It hurt. Hurt more than anything she'd ever experienced.
But she began to heal. With help from Merlin, she worked through her pain and even started a new friendship with Arthur, even if it was a little awkward at first.
Things were going well, for a time. Gwen felt that she and Arthur had built a decent relationship, despite their circumstances.
She had suffered tremendous pain and had managed to clear her mind, even if there was still a piece of her that still... had feelings for him. But regardless of these feelings, she was resolute: she was never going to take him back, not even if he crawled on his hands and knees and wept.
But then Arthur said something that made her doubt herself. She couldn't believe that those four little words had such an impact. She'd been hurt and had healed... and then Arthur said, "I still love you".
In a way, she had wanted him to say it, so she could reject his romantic advances, make him feel the pain she had felt... but as soon as his words reached her ears, her resolve weakened against her will and her heart began to scream at her head, demanding that she take him back.
Could she? After all the pain she'd suffered? After all the times she'd cried herself to sleep, wondering why? Could she risk being torn apart again... for love?
Her head and heart, locked in battle, waged a war. A war of love, loss, anger and pain.
