AN: This is an entry for the first fanfic challenge at Unexpected Chemistry a Nikolas & Elizabeth forum. The challenge was to write a short story (minimum 250 words) around the six bolded words. The story was to take place during Walpurgis Night or May Day.
Nikolas has always been a hedonist, he enjoys his pleasure. Not for him the life of an ascetic. Having only read about Walpurgis Night celebrations in an ancient book of ballads the invitation kindles his curiosity, so he attends this annual event.
Blindfolded he is lead through the night shrouded woods. Senses blurred he is lost, fully trusting the people that lead him. Bodies press close and the sound of drums and smell of wood fire tells him he is near their destination. The acrid smoke curls around his tongue causing a satiable thirst.
Fires light up the misty valley. Women and men dance in naked abandonment around the flames. The beat of the drums sets his soul ablaze. Wine loosens his remaining inhibitions and he joins the celebrants. There he finds her, his Elizabeth. They dance and laugh, eat and drink, and are merry. She flirts with him. Leaving him to dance with others. Near midnight the celebrants, chant loudly, making a cacophony of noise to scare away the dead and troubled spirits.
The night grows cold and long, more logs are put on the fires. People move closer together for warmth. The drums grow frantic than calm. The celebration continues until dawn, some couples move away from the fire light seeking the anonymity of the dark. Elizabeth only teases, she knows better than to give him everything he desires.
At dawn the fires are doused. Elizabeth covers his eyes with a silken blindfold. She leads him to his limo. Their gentle kiss good-bye sends him into Morpheus' arms. As the limo pulls into the airport he awakes, passion un-abated.
Bonus Fic :: Two LikFic140's I wrote, using the six challenge words, for the very short Nikolas & Elizabeth fics on /LikFic140 .
Thirst abated, Nikolas looks up from his glass of Cognac, he catches site of Elizabeth and is filled with a new insatiable thirst.
She kindles his inner hedonist, leaving him ablaze with lust and wanting, the kind that rivals love found only in ballads.
