Looking Glass

-

Inspired by the episode of Dead Zone by the same name. Weird place to get inspiration from, huh? That said, I don't own Lord of the Rings or the Dead Zone. Enjoy.

"Why?" A whisper. His hands were shaking, blood covered, stained red. He stood slowly, his eyes on his hands as though they would turn on him at any moment. "Why did you do it?" he looked up at his reflection in the mirror. "Why did you kill her?" he was shouting now, his face reddening, waving those hands at his mirror image as though they were the soul vessels of his wrath.

"You didn't see." Harsh, tearfilled words; a sword falling to the ground with a clatter. The mirror broken. "I tried to tell you but you didn't see…" he didn't meet the eyes that stared at him from the looking glass every morning, instead staring at the hands that gestured towards him so emphatically.

"I… I loved her, Elrohir." Hands dropped to his side, lost.

"She was tearing us apart!" he stated, almost angry now - why couldn't he see what was looking back at him? "She was trying to…" he tried to reach out for those hands, but faltered as Elladan pulled away in disgust.

"She was trying to love me in return!" A scream, pain-filled, the sound of a heart broken. Seizing the sword from the ground, still stained with her blood.

"Elladan." Fear.

"You took her from me!" Anger.

"She was only a girl. I am your brother!" Desperation.

The valley echoed with the sound of the battle cry.

Elladan turned to his beloved, one half of a mirror image, separated from the other. He knelt by her side.

"Forgive me."

And then there was nothing but death.
