The air felt cold as his body finally giving into the pain. He had been out of the game for years, but it caught up. The bullet wounds seeped blood, as his eyes started to close.
"Alex?" whispered a voice about him. His eyes slid open to see Ben leaning over him. The last decade had been good to Ben.
"Ben… Protect…" Alex tried to speak, blood trailing down his cheek. Ben gathered Alex into his arms.
"What… Who did this?" Ben asked, looking for the shooters. Alex ignored the word.
"Protect family." His eyes shut for the last time.
