Chapter 1: Christmas Conversation With a Shock
It was a snowy day in O-Town and two days before Christmas. Rocko was sitting on his chair reading a newspaper when he heard a knock at the door. He put down his newspaper, went over to the front door and opened it to see Heffer and Filburt.
"Hi, Rocko!" greeted Heffer and Filburt.
"Hey, guys," Rocko greeted back. "What brings you two here?"
"We wanna hang out with you like we always do," replied Heffer.
"Alright, come in if you like," said Rocko.
Heffer and Filburt stepped into the house and took their coats off. They sat on the couch with Rocko.
"Are you two excited for Christmas?" asked Rocko.
"We sure are, Rock!" hollered Heffer.
"I want to get a chew toy for Spunky," said Rocko. "What do you want for Christmas, Heff?"
"Something that I want to eat," replied Heffer.
Rocko and Filburt sweat-dropped, making Heffer confused. They sort of knew he was going to say that since he loves food.
"What?" wondered Heffer.
"Nothing," answered Rocko. "We were just wondering what kind of food you want."
"Any kind of food, but mostly-" replied Heffer.
While he was speaking, a leaf flew into his mouth unnoticed, having just flown in from the open kitchen window. And without warning, he started to choke. Rocko and Filburt became scared at what was happening.
"Heffer, are you alright?!" asked Rocko, frantically.
"I think…I'm…choking…" choked Heffer. "Help!"
"Hold on!" said Rocko. "I'll get you a glass of water!"
Rocko ran into the kitchen, got a glass and poured water into it with a jug. Then he rushed back into the living room with the drink.
"Here, drink this quickly!" Rocko told, giving Heffer his glass of water.
Heffer drank his drink. Then he stopped choking and panted.
"Phew, that was a close one," sighed Heffer. "Thanks for saving my life, Rocko."
"No problem, Heff," said Rocko. Then he realised the kitchen window was open. "Oh dear, I must have left the window open. I guess that item must have got in that way. Hold on, I'll just close it so incidents like that don't happen again."
Rocko went into the kitchen and closed the window. Then he sat back down on the couch in the living room with Heffer and Filburt.
"Now, you were saying, Heff?" said Rocko.
"I like any kind of food for Christmas, but mostly candy," answered Heffer.
"Oh, I see," said Rocko. "I thought you were going to say that. Filburt, what do you want for Christmas?"
"I want a life simulation video game," replied Filburt. "So I can raise a person or two. I like those kind of games."
"Now that sounds interesting, Filburt," said Rocko.
"Yeah, right on," Heffer agreed.
"Thanks, guys," Filburt smiled.
"How about we find a Christmas special to watch for a little while, guys?" Rocko suggested.
"Yeah!" Heffer cheered.
"Sure!" Filburt agreed.
And so, Rocko went over to the TV and turned it on. Eventually, they found a Christmas special to watch. It was a one-hour comedy movie about a person getting a job as a street Santa. As the film played, the trio had some good laughs. But the laughs weren't to last, not from the movie but in real life. The movie was about over 15 minutes into it and they were in the middle of one of their laughing sessions.
"What is that street Santa guy doing?" Filburt asked while laughing.
"I don't know, Filburt, but it's ridiculous what he's doing!" Rocko answered with giggles in his voice.
Suddenly, without warning, Heffer stopped laughing when was overcome with a little stomach cramp.
"Ow," said Heffer, putting his hand over his stomach.
"You alright, Heffer?" asked Rocko.
"Yeah, just a tiny cramp from laughing a lot," replied Heffer before feeling something in his throat. "Guys, can I get a tissue? I'm feeling a cough coming on."
"Sure, Heff," Rocko said.
Heffer ran into the kitchen. A few seconds later, he was heard coughing. Then he went back into the living room, looking panicked.
"Heffer, what's wrong?" asked Filburt.
"Yeah, you look like you've seen a ghost," Rocko agreed.
"I…coughed up…blood," Heffer whimpered.
Rocko and Filburt were gob-smacked. Coughing up blood was NOT a good thing at all.
"You've seriously got to be kidding me," said Filburt with fear.
"No, I'm not…honest…" Heffer replied, trembling.
That was when Rocko and Filburt's fears really skyrocketed.
"Oh my Lord! We better get you to the hospital now!" gasped Rocko.
"What about the movie?" Heffer wondered.
"We'll have to leave it for now!" answered Rocko as he rushed over to the TV and turned it off. "Now let's go!"
So Rocko, Heffer and Filburt quickly put on their coats and dashed out the house to the hospital. And within a short amount of time, Heffer was checked in for an emergency appointment.
Oh no! Something's wrong with Heffer! What will his condition be? We'll find out in the next chapter!
