Embodiment
Curled up in a ball in the corner of his cell, the freezing, unyielding rock of the walls biting into his back, Sirius screams.
He feels nothing, sees nothing in front of him.
What he sees is himself eagerly convincing James to use Peter as a secret keeper.
What he sees is a house of dreams reduced to rubble.
What he sees is a luminous dark mark shimmering tauntingly; casting an eerie glow over the destruction.
What he sees is the embodiment of the good in him, the courage in him; his best friend… his brother, a chalky white corpse.
What he sees is flaming red hair mocking him, lying starkly against her marble cheek as if it has leeched all the life and colour from her.
What he feels is all the hope and loveliness in his world dying with her.
What he knows is the devastation, the wasteland that his life has become in one horrific moment… once a paradise now his own hell.
What he hears is an infant's wail from the protective circle of his mothers' frigid arms.
What he feels is the cruel desperate hope of a moment, when all is not lost, and a small boy is discovered and cradled to his chest, while tears stream freely down his face into the mop of soft black hair.
What he feels is the emptiness when the warmth on his chest is wrenched away.
What he feels is the purposelessness that floods him when his boy, his momentary everything, is ripped from him.
What he feels is hopelessness.
What he has is now only revenge.
What matters as his last hope guns off into the night on his motorcycle is only revenge.
What he feels is madness, mad obsession; the only thing that prevents his grief; his guilt from driving him insane.
And in his corner he whimpers in the pain of reliving the death of those that embodied every bit of goodness in himself.
And then he laughs madly because madness and revenge are all he has left.
Everything else he buried with them.
