Prologue

My name is Elizabeth Aella Van Der Woodsen. I know, my name is really weird. I'm 19 years old. I don't have any close friends however I do get on with most of the people in my class. I don't have a boyfriend because most of the boys on my course are immature. I have long blonde curly hair and tanned skin. My parents are very rich even though they have never told me what they do. We're so rich that I could never work a day in my life and shop in Milan every day and still have enough money left over to have a family. This doesn't mean my life is great.

I rarely see my parents as they keep travelling so I get left in the 'care' of the staff who are very strict. This means that I spend as much time out of my house as possible. I'm lucky at the minute because I can stay in college housing as I am doing a major in Social Studies. I also learn different types of martial arts as even though I'm a girl I refuse to be an easy target for all the criminals that are in DC.

I don't have any siblings but I see that as a good thing because it means that they don't have to suffer through the same treatment as me. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

My life wasn't that interesting until one day a man in a very posh suit with short, spiky brown hair walked into my lecture theatre and asked for me.

"Can I please talk to Elizabeth Van Der Woodsen." He looked around until he laid eyes on me. It was clear that he already knew who I was so I made my way down the stairs towards him. He gently took my arm and led me outside to a picnic table that was a fair distance from anyone so they wouldn't hear whatever the guy was about to tell me.

"Who are you?" I doubt I'm in trouble because I have never been caught breaking rules. It spoils the fun if you're caught because they will learn to expect that behaviour from you but if you're never caught then it's more fun. Plus he didn't seem like the typical campus security or police.

"FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth," he took a badge out and showed it to me. It looked authentic so I accepted that he was a real agent however I still couldn't see what this had to do with me. "Miss Van Der Woodsen, I'd like to ask you some questions. We believe you are in danger."
