A/N: This is just a one shot that happens sometime in the last days of Sunnydale. I'm not sure where it came from, it just showed up. So here it is.

Fluffy Spuffy

Buffy sat down next to Spike. They were amazingly alone. It must have been that it was near dawn and all the potentials were miraculously asleep for once. She propped her elbow up on the arm of the chair and leaned her head against her hand. For some strange reason a question popped into her head. "Do you remember that time we got engaged?"

"Yeah, 'cuz of little red's spell. You could have at least untied me from that chair," Spike half smirked.

"Hey, I got you out of the tub." Buffy inhaled deeply. "Who could have guessed everything would end up like this?"

"Not exactly the way I envisioned the future panning out. Never does turn out perfect though," Spike said.

"God don't I know that," Buffy rolled her eyes. "It's funny that that particular day should stand out to me now. It's not really relevant. I keep thinking of things like this."

"It's not irrelevant, it's just only relevant to one thing. Us," Spike almost whispered.

"It's history," Buffy said.

"Exactly. You and me, we've pretty much always had history. Bad history mostly."

"I don't know if I'd say that," Buffy said hesitantly.

"Let's face it pet, whatever could have been good between us, has already been had or needed to start from the beginning, but we started out with history," Spike reached over and played with a lock of Buffy's blonde hair.

"I think that's the most philosophical thing you ever said. When did you get so damn wise?" Buffy choked back something that could have been a laugh or a sob.

"I am fairly old, love."

"Don't you mean fairly odd?" Buffy joked.

"Well, it's not like I can lie about it," Spike shrugged.

"I wish things had been different."

"We all do," Spike said.

"I mean, between us." Buffy kissed him. It was a simple kiss, not very long and not going past their lips touching, but it was meaningful all same.

Dawn walked into the room carrying a large jar of peanut butter and several spoons. "Hey Buffy, are you up for peanut butter and a chick flick? Oh," she said after noticing Spike, "I'm sorry about interrupting."

"It's ok Dawn. I think I will take you up on your offer. Go ahead and get started, I'll be there in a second," Buffy waved her little sister out of the room. She got up to leave, but turned around in the doorway. "History sucks."

A/N: So there you have it. Don't forget to leave a review, it's really not that hard to do.
