Was Veil evil?
Was Veil vile?
"Give it a name and leave it a while".
From Swartt's horde he came,
And back to his horde he went
From Redwall, dubbed poisoner,
Away he was sent.
But our ignorance may never end;
Was he a foe, or was he a friend?
He was a ferret,
Outside and in,
And in the camp of Swartt's vermin
His life did begin.
Far away in the Abbey,
He was raised from a babe
By a young gentle mouse,
A kind abbey maid.
She loved the young ferret,
And thought he would be good
And she couldn't bear it
When he was cast out into
Mossflower wood.
The young mouse maid,
Loving him still,
Went seeking after him,
As a sister or mother will.
A long time after,
In a dangerous place,
She saw Swartt the Warlord,
Face to face.
Swartt nearly killed her,
Then Veil got in the way
The spear hit his chest
And he died that day.
Sunflash killed the father
As the father killed the son,
And now both of those ferrets
To the Dark forest have gone,
But was Veil really an evil?
The question still remains.
Will we ever decide on yes or no?
Or will we never make up our brains?
