Chapter 1- Guarded
BPOV
I woke with a start.Automatically, I reached for the opposite side of the bed,my hands only grabbing sheets. Where is he? Edward was always here when I woke up. A rushed feeling of panic shot through my body. Immediately, I chastised myself for even thinking like that. Edward was not going to leave me again.Ever.
At that moment, my bedroom door swung open and there he was, sweet perfection, standing in the doorway. "Good morning, beautiful", his sweet velvety voice coursed throughout the room. My head swarmed with nonsensical thoughts and for a short moment I was overcome with dizzyness. "Where did you go?" I asked accusingly as soon as I was able to speak. "Oh... I was just taking care of some things downstairs." He replied mysteriously.
"Did you have to use the bathroom?" I joked because we both knew that, as a vampire, Edward didn't have to do such things. "Not quite." He chuckled. He strode over to the bed and smoothly slid under the covers. His lips were suddenly at my ear and I was thoroughly conscious of his breath wisping across my neck. "Miss me much?", his lips lightly brushed against my ear as he spoke. "I was worried, that's all." I tried to hide the hurt in my voice,I was unsuccessful.
"Oh Bella, I'm so sorry." His sincere voice was barely audible. "I'm not leaving you again, what will it take to make you understand?" He finished, wrapping his cold arms around me. I pulled his cool hand up to my face, savoring the scent of it. I couldn't find the words to reply so we simply lay there in silence.
Some time later, Edward sat up and gently pulled me across his chest. "You need to get up or we're going to be late." Edward stated matter-of-factly. "For what?" "You'll find out later." With this, my curiosity returned to the previous question of what he was doing downstairs when I was asleep. I lazily swung my legs over the side of the bed and started for the stairs. Edward was beside me instantly.
As we descended the stairs, of waffles and bacon wafted through my nostrils. Since when can Edward cook? But sure enough, the table was filled variations of breakfast foods. "So, this is what you were doing..." I wondered aloud. "Well, aren't you going to try it?" He urged impatiently. I sat down and tried a piece of bacon. It was better than I expected, actually.
After trying a few more of the plates, I decided to strike up conversation. "So, when did you learn to cook?" I questioned. "Last night", he replied with a grin. "You know, there's not much to do while you're asleep."
"What is it that we're going to be late for, again?" I probed, "Because I hate surprises." " I know you do, So I guess I will tell you... We are throwing you a make-up birthday party, since the the first one, you know..," he paused, "Was a disaster."
"What?!", I exclaimed. "It was Alice's idea." Edward replied, as if that would make the situation better. "Fine," I grumbled and clumsily stomped up the stairs.
