He should've known. He'd seen all the signs, heard all the warnings. Yet he never heeded them. Sam wasn't, couldn't, be evil.
That was until the night Sam pinned him to the wall, freshly sharpened knife pressing into his throat. His eyes flashed golden in the light of the room for a moment before they returned to his warm hazel, filled with fear.
Dean had witnessed the mood swings, the burns on Sam's hands from the holy water, the way he shirked away from Devil's trap and exorcisms.
But it hadn't prepared Dean for when he finally pulled the trigger.
