Not Understanding

----x----

Summary: Because Yuffie goes up, down, and all around just to avoid those memories buried deep in her heart.

Disclaimer: Psh…of course I don't own Kingdom Hearts.

----x----

She's flying through the air, a being made up of rushing blood and bunching muscles. Her lungs expand, contract, expand, contract. They don't stop, don't pause in their quick rhythm, always moving and bringing in the air. Her shuriken is slicing the air and through heartless. It cuts through them like butter, little clouds of smoke and crystalline hearts floating to the sky.

But it doesn't matter, there's only that next spell on the edge of her lips, and a whir of motions. She doesn't have time to think (she barely tries to think at all, if ever) its all basic instincts and in ground habits coming into motion.

Its with a final flurry of momvent a crystalline heart that all the little black things (with their yellow eyes and antennas that always moved and watched) disappeared. She's breathing hard but Yuffie feels good, feels good until she breaks that rule. Suddenly and viciously cracking open the vault in her mind for no reason.

Sometimes Yuffie doesn't understand herself.

She laughs and wipes the sweat and tears from her face as she feels old things, things long past. Flurries of a place that no longer is and will never exist again, memories shifting through her mind and leaving as soon as they came. Pictures of an annoying red head and a monster man. But she doesn't bother to remember or cry, because she's sure she's cried for them before.

She won't cry for them again, and there's many others but they don't shift through her mind as slowly. Most importantly there's them, a whole mass of people she knows and loves. But these people are before Hollow Bastion and can't be there anymore. So Yuffie locks up the annoying red head and the monster man. She's been reborn and has no need to remember them (have you really been reborn are all those memories just replacements of them?) she doesn't bother respond to the whisper in the back of her head.

The memories go away as soon as she locks the vault up, the random excursion into a life no longer her own having exhausted her further. So scuffing her feet and panting she wonders over to the house where Merlin is and gets ready to rest. Coming in she see's Leon, who gazes at her disapprovingly while she smiles winningly back.

Yuffie is glad she knows Leon, he isn't in those memories, and she can see the ones buried deep behind his own. Her smile widens.

"Hey Squall, do you happen to have any candy corn?" Yuffie will never understand herself, but that's ok. It means nobody else ever will either, and that's good enough for her. No one can truly understand themselves or others anyways.
