SPOILERS
He awoke in familiar place. He lay there for awhile, waiting for a sound, he realised he was lying of soft grass that smelled freshly mowed. After sometime he got up and looked around, he smiled at the scenes around him, it was Hogwarts, and he was by the Black Lake.
"Fred?" a familiar voice called and as Fred turned he saw a group five adults under the beech tree. He walked over to the group and did a double take, standing there was Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Nymphadora Tonks-Lupin and, two people he didn't recognize. A tall man that looked like someone Fred knew well and a pretty woman, she had dark red hair and emerald eyes in the shape of almonds that looked exactly like Harry's. Fred realised with a jolt that the couple must be Harry's dead parents.
"But if Harry's parents are here" he thought to himself, "then I may be dead as well." He looked around more closely to see what looked like Professor Dumbledore a few feet away talking to a young girl. All around were people Fred once knew or had heard about, his eyes found a pair of young men feeding the giant squid. They were identical to each other as well as looking a lot like Fred himself. They had flaming red hair, freckles and brown eyes like his mother, the men saw Fred staring and waved to him as if they knew exactly who he was.
"Fred, good to see you it's been awhile mate" Sirius let out a bark like laugh. He was younger about the same age as Harry's parents. Remus spoke next; he looked calm and peaceful with thick dark hair and a twenty-something face, his hand was round Tonk's waist,
"Fred this is James and Lily Potter, Harry's parents," he gestured to the couple then turned to them and said, and "Guys this is Fred-"
"Weasley, yeah I recognise the red hair anywhere, you're the one that found our map" James laughed as he held out his hand for Fred to take, which he did.
"I'm dead aren't I?" Fred blurted out looking at Lupin. They all looked grave and nodded.
"But I can't be I promised George that we-"he stopped remembering his twin. A shocked expression came over his face for he had realised that he had left his twin, best friend, brother and prank partner behind to defend himself.
"I'm sorry Fred," Sirius said beside him but Fred was to numb to hear. He just nodded at them and went to sit on the bank a few meters away.
"Should we go over?" asked Tonks quietly as the group watch Fred sit.
No one got to answer because a terrible scream could be heard just meters next to them. The scream wasn't from terror or fear it was from pain and suffering. It was like a child's cry, followed by loud sobs and more hollowing. No one knew what to do until Lily detached herself from James and sat silently beside the sobbing Fred. She put her arms around him and let him cry into her top. They sat there like that for hours while Fred let it all out and never once did she complain, she just held him and comforted him like any mother would do. Finally he calmed down enough for him to croak,
"I've left him behind, I betrayed him, broke his trust-"
"It's not your fault Fred don't blame yourself, it will be alright." Lily smiled warmly and helped him.
"Yes," thought Fred "eventually it will be okay"
From that moment until Fred and George were reunited, Lily Potter comforted and looked after Fred like a mother as Mrs Weasley had done for her son so well.
