Disclaimer: I don't own the show because certain characters wouldn't exist and I would be dating Sam… (Don't worry, I like Andy. She can have Sam after me)

It's short but I think it gets the point across

Andy couldn't believe she was in this situation. All her life she had chosen the bad boy and gotten burned. This time she had chosen what appeared to be the good guy and she still ended up feeling like an overdone steak. If she was a steak Luke might have been more interested in her because he did make sure to eat while on a case. If she were something to be staked out she'd have more of his attention than she has as his girlfriend. She knows that with Luke, the case comes before her every time.

It wasn't that she was shocked by the fact that she was wrong again. No, the shocking portion of her current situation was that the 'bad boy' character was not only who she wanted but the person best for her. The part of this story that was like a bad case of déjà vu, the part that told her this too would end badly, was the part that said Andy always wants what she can't have. Or at least isn't supposed to have – Sam's reaction to her indiscretion left her wondering exactly how he felt towards her and certain rules that were supposed to keep them in a professional relationship only.

That's where her real problem was. Those few moments with her training officer were enough to tell her that sleeping with him would have been amazing. She had already known that she was physically attracted to him but the feeling of his arms around her was intoxicating. Andy knew that sex with Sam would be the toe-curling, passionate the kind of sex that authors wrote about in trashy novels. It was everything she'd never dreamed could be real and everything she desperately desired all at once.

But sex with Sam was out of the question for a few reasons. The first one was obvious; she might trust Officer Swarek with her life but she wasn't ready to trust Sam with her heart. The second was the fact that it might all be an illusion. Sleeping with Sam might ruin all of the wonderful sensations she dreamed about because they were only due to the fact that it was forbidden by regulations and not because Sam was fantastic in bed. Nothing is worse than being incredibly excited for something only to have it be mediocre in the end. Her last reason was that she still with Luke and she would remain with him until she was no longer a rookie and feels comfortable breaking up with him or when he breaks up with her.

When she's a full-fledge officer and not a rookie, she might be more willing to trust Sam. Maybe she will be ready to test her theories about how good he was in bed once it's no longer Taboo. At that time, Luke will likely be out of the picture because one of them will have ended it by then. She knows that it won't work in the end because their relationship doesn't work now – Andy is after all, not a steak.

Authors Note: Everything I've read gives good explanations for why she left his bed, many give scenarios where she stayed but this occurred to me.
