Goin' Courtin'

Rating: PG-13/T

Genre: Humor/Romance

Summary: Drabble. Fill for a prompt on comment_fic, "The Vampire Diaries, Damon/Elijah, courting." "Courting? Is that what you're calling this?"

Author's Note: DAMN IT! I shouldn't be going anywhere near comment_fic, because I ALREADY HAVE PLENTY STORIES TO WORK ON.

Disclaimer: I don't own The Vampire Diaries. It belongs to L.J. Smith/The CW.

"Courting?" Damon snorts the word with the same dismissal he gives just about everything else. "Is that what you're calling this?"

"I believe you were alive during a time when chivalry was prominent, Damon."

Damon scoffs. "Well, yeah, but that was guys and girls. We're guys, and this-" He gestures to the rumpled sheets around them with a cocked eyebrow, "-this is a step or two beyond traditional courting."

Elijah shrugged. "I thought you would appreciate the expediency."

"Oh, I do. I'm not the dating kind of guy."

"Mm, I know- You're the... I believe they call it the 'Love 'em and leave 'em' kind."

"Oh, you know me so well."

"And that is the point of courting," Elijah pressed, "Getting to know you, winning your affections."

"And making it very clear that if I 'love and leave' you, you'll rip my heart out of my chest."

"I never said that."

Damon gave a facetious grin. "Oh, but Elijah, I know you too well by now too." And yeah, he was a complete masochist for finding Elijah's threats, spoken and unspoken, kind of hot. Elijah smirked, and Damon shivered.

"That you do."

(BTW, this is the scenario that ran through my head at the moment, but I actually might write a full-length story just because this prompt is dancing around my head now).
