The same blood that had been smeared across the young man's face also dripped in ruby splotches from his naturally crimson hair. His Olive eyes stared across the top of the rushing box car at the emotionless golden ones staring back at him from behind the tip of a dagger.

Claire Stanfield, conductor, assassin, and Rail Tracer, had never seen a prettier sight in all his life.

The girl, mute to the world and hair as black as night, stood poised to strike, but by no means intending to attack, was so captivating. He had thought there might be a hint of fear behind her unwavering facade, but if there was, phase her it did not. The boisterous White Suit had called her Chane.

He had intended to kill whoever was leftover from the debacle he had walked in on, after all one was a White Suit and the other, the young woman, traveled with the Black Suits. Both factions had it out for the passengers of the train. His train. Not ok. But this girl...

"Now then, I said I'd kill whoever survived, but I cant tell if he's alive or dead. So what should I do?"

Well, this girl was different.

Her soul purpose being on this train was to protect...someone. Someone named Huey. Her Father, an Immortal.

In her eyes, nothing, yet so alive...brilliant.

"You think I'm gonna try to hurt him, don't you? That I'm gonna try to steal the secret to his immortality."

Poor doll, the man's probably all she's got.

"You'll do anything to protect him, am I right?"

She nodded.

"Well then, I have the perfect idea. All you have to do is agree to marry me. That way I'll be your father's son, part of the family. I'll be obligated to protect him as much as you."

Her eyes, golden and cold, widened.

"Don't worry," He assured her. "I'm completely serious. Unlike your pals in there, I have no intent to off you. It may be true that your father knows the secret to immortality, but I have no need for that. For you see,"

Blood dripped from his crimson hair as he stepped closer.

"There is no possible way that I'm going to die, I truly believe this." He beamed, looking the girl in the eyes, those viciously gorgeous eyes. "You may not be able to speak, but you can believe this too, right? I am a man who can never die."

The girl, Chane, those eyes spoke for her.

'Who is this man?' They said. 'What is he saying? How do I understand?' It was all so tragically foreign to her ears, so devoid of real compassion.

A bullet rings past then, and the moment escapes far too soon.

"There's a bridge coming up ahead soon, you should jump if you don't wanna be caught by the police." Claire says as he turns away, towards the unfortunate sniper. "Oh, and please carve your answer to my proposal onto the roof of car before you go. Bye now, you can throw that knife of yours if you want to, but you'll never hit me!" And just like that he's gone. Leaving the girl, Chane, alone and confused.

"Heh, Manhattan huh? But that place is so big, and she doesn't even know my name."

But it really didn't matter. He'd look for her when he got there, and she'd be looking for him too.

'And how about that,' He thought to himself as he strolled along the top of the box cars, whirring past the setting sun. 'She said yes.'

Alright, I just finished Baccano! and it was fantastic! I really loved that show, and in the end there was really not one single character I didn't like for one reason or another. But I really love these two. They are both complex and I think that they were made for each other. I know this isn't my best writing, just a written account of a scene from the series, but I think I might wanna write more for Baccano!, not just this pair either :) Reviews?
