Family
(Disclaimer: I don't own Ghost Hunt... Just the thought of this plot bunny...)
The day would always come. Every year it came around, the day that they died. Every year I would cry. Then the day would leave. But it would always come back.
Mother was not always nice to me. Neither was father. But they were the only family I had. Mom died in a fire. I have the scar to prove it. Dad died in the army. The memories of that day are painful. My parents would pay attention to me, sometimes. Sometimes they didn't. Sometimes I even wonder if they knew I was alive.
Dad left soon after and I never got to see him again. I don't remember much. All I know is that he won't be here again. Neither will she.
My life fell apart after they left. In a flash, my point in living was gone. My life fell into a pattern after that. Get up. Eat breakfast. Go to school. Come back from school. Study. Eat. Go to bed and repeat the process. Mizuki-sensei worried about me and asked if I was alright. I would give her a fake smile and say I was. But inside I knew that I wasn't.
A few months after that, she left. I started living on my own and my grades started slipping. I wasn't taking care of myself anymore. My health would slip and I would sometimes wake up without even remembering when I had gone to bed. This would continue, that is, until he came along.
When he entered my life; I felt joy that I hadn't felt in a long time. All the other members made me feel the same way, even that stuck-up medium.
I began to realize, you don't always need a family. You can make your own with just the people you work with.
I remember mom telling me something like this a long time ago. Things aren't always going to be good, but if you have friends, you aren't alone.
I was all alone until they all came along. Even Lin was a ray of sunshine in my day. These are my friends.
Never mind, I don't have any friends.
I have a family.
