I know I don't write R&I much these days, but this quick little one shot hit me, so I figured I'd type it out and post it.

Characters aren't mine. They belong to Tess, Janet, Warner Brothers, and other assorted important people.

"I think I might be pregnant," Jane said, terror flashing through her eyes. She looked lost and unsure, so unlike the woman Maura had become friends with years earlier, a woman who never showed fear and never backed down.

This wasn't that woman. The Jane Rizzoli standing before her was years younger in actions, though years older in physical age, and Maura took in a deep breath while she processed both the uncharacteristic sense of bewilderment radiating off of her friend and her own feelings of unease.

With Casey clearly no longer an option as a person to turn to, though he was partially the cause of Jane's situation and with the Rizzoli clan not a viable option either as they dealt with the relapse of Tommy, Jane was standing alone in sea of uncertainty.

Except she wasn't.

Maura gave a small, reassuring smile. "Okay," she replied in a gentle, quiet voice, "if you are, I'll be here to support you in whatever decision you make." She reached out, placing a comforting hand on her friend's forearm. "This is your choice, Jane, and I'll stand by you."

"What if I am?" The brunette stared down at the store bought pregnancy test. "Maura, I can't raise this child on my own."

"You won't be." the honey haired woman gave a squeeze to Jane's arm where she held it. "If there is a baby, and you decide to keep it, then I'll be here for the both of you."

"You would do that? You'd help me raise a child that's not even yours?" Jane closed her eyes, rolling them at herself at how unsure and needy she sounded, at her weakness. "I mean, Ma and Frankie would be there, too. I just… I guess I need to tell Casey once I'm positive, and he'll probably want me to marry him, but I don't want to do that. I don't want to marry someone just because there's a baby involved. A forced marriage, Maura? What kind of family would that be for my kid?"

"No one's saying you have to marry Casey, even if you're going to have a child together." Maura let her hand drop. She sighed, glancing back at the computer which still held Casey' message begging Jane to give up her world because he refused to give up his. She slowly returned her gaze to the brunette standing before her. "You have me, Jane, and the rest of your family, and, yes, I would help you raise your child even if it isn't mine." She couldn't help but give a little smirk at how that sounded. "We've been through so much together - serial killers, near death experiences, and mobsters. Raising a child together seems far less daunting than attempting to escape capture. We can do this."

"Actually, I think I'd rather be captured again. It's less complicated." Jane let out a shaky chuckle. "I don't want marry Casey."

Maura gave a tight lipped smiled. "Then you don't have to."

"If I am pregnant, I want to have this child."

The older woman nodded. "Then we'll find a way. We always do."

Jane stared at Maura for a long moment, eyes watery with unshed tears. Taking in a deep breath as she unconsciously placed her free hand on her stomach, she asked quietly, "Together?"

With another nod, Maura reached forward to place her hand atop Jane's where it rested on the detective's stomach. "Together."
