Guilty Pleasure
She was in her lab with the door locked, doing nothing. Gibbs was being dragged to a conference somewhere in New York by the Director, Tony and Ziva were on their honeymoon in Italy, Ducky had taken Jimmy to a forensic autopsy seminar, and Tim was giving a lecture on creative writing at one of the many universities in the area. She was all alone; there was nobody to talk to and she had no evidence to process.
She walked over to her stereo and extracted one of her usual CDs and replaced it with a guilty pleasure of hers; one that she had vowed to never reveal to anyone. She decided to clean some of her machines since the janitorial staff never did it right. She pulled out the materials and began to sing to herself.
We were both young when I first saw you,
I close my eyes and the flashback starts,
I'm standing there, on a balcony in summer air
She danced over to her computer screen with some paper towels and glass cleaner, humming now. The song quickly came to her favorite part: the chorus. She sang at the Mass Specrometer.
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone,
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run,
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story, baby, just say yes
She danced around the room, eyes closed. She used the remote to turn up the volume since there was no one else on this floor besides her. She didn't hear the lock click and the door open. She didn't see him standing behind her, watching her sing. She belted out the song as loud as she could.
Romeo save me, I've been feeling so alone,
I keep waiting for you but you never come,
Is this in my head, I don't know what to think,
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said
She might not have heard him come in, but she heard him when he began to sing behind her.
Marry me Juliet; you never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress,
It's a love story, baby, just say yes
She clamped her mouth shut and turned around. "Timmy, if you tell anyone I like Taylor Swift, I'll…"
"I know Abs; you'll kill me and leave no forensic evidence."
"Well, yes, but I was going to say that I'll tell them that you like Taylor Swift, too."
