This is my first Tudor fanfic and I hope to write more! This one was just a quick story but I may add more if this has a good response.
It was late that summer night Anne lay in her large canopy bed alone. She was watching the moon through her large window. She hadn't been sleeping well lately, too worried about the child growing within her belly. It was her final chance for survival. If it wasn't a boy she would lose her dear Henry as well as her beloved Elizabeth. She couldn't lose either of them. She was drawn from her thoughts when she heard her chamber door creak open. She sat up thinking quickly it might be Henry coming to sleep beside her for the night. Instead of the tall, dark haired man a tiny, red headed girl came around the corner and stood across from the bed. "Mama.." She said softly, sniffling as if she had been crying.
"Oh my dear Elizabeth what is wrong?" She got out of bed and went over to her. Henry had allowed Elizabeth to spend some time here at the palace instead of Hatfield for the summer and she always wanted to be with her mother. How Elizabeth had managed to slip out of her chambers without her governess noticing was beyond Anne but she didn't care when her little baby seemed so distraught. She knelt down to her daughter's level and looked her in the eyes. "What has you up so late my darling?" She asked wiping the final tears from her daughter's cheeks.
Elizabeth immediately wrapped her chubby arms around her mother's neck. "Bad dream.." She murmured into Anne's hair. "Oh my love it's alright now. You're here with me." She lifted her up into her arms and rubbed her little back. She slowly rocked her as she made her way back to bed. "Can you tell me what happened in your dream?" She asked. Elizabeth was quiet at first, "you left, no come back..." Anne could tell she was holding back tears. The little girl sniffled again and then began to cry. "Don't go mama... Don't go." She wailed. "Oh my sweet Elizabeth. Mama will always come back to you." She kissed her little cheeks as she laid next to her in bed.
"Promise?" Elizabeth asked through the tears. "I promise my darling with all my heart." She answered. "Would you like to stay with me tonight to keep the nightmares away?" Elizabeth nodded and cuddled as close as she possibly could to her mother. "Please." She said looking up at her mother with puppy dog eyes. "It's settled then." Anne replied wiping the tears away from the toddler's cheeks.
Elizabeth settled down in her arms and rested her head against her mother's chest. Anne played with her daughter's red curls until the child feel into a deep dreamless slumber. She kissed her head a final time, "I love you Elizabeth with all my heart and I bid you never forget it." She smiled as she closed her eyes, in this singular moment she felt as if she had returned to the state of being "the most happy" once more. She had her true love of her life with her in that moment, her daughter. Her Elizabeth.
