For those who weren't aware of it, it came out of nowhere. But we're told it was years in the making so that was what we had to believe. The Magick Revolution changed everything, the entire world. The Magick exposed themselves and took over. They were led by the Sorcerer, a powerful mage who is rumored to have power over everything. People say that is his dominant power was to convince people. They say he could have anyone to do anything.

We're told that the Sorcerer spent most of his life finding all manners of magickal power, from centaurs and vampires to ghosts and witches. We're told they all agreed to move with him to take the world from the control of the "normal" people. We're told that when the Magick army advanced, they tried to spare as many people as possible. We're told that when they instituted the new rule, they weren't challenged. People accepted it, as if they were expecting the change. It isn't hard to poke holes in this story. To do so and question it openly is forbidden, though. But we do it in secret.

It's hard to believe that they were not challenged. Change is hard to accept for anyone, the new rule wouldn't have gone over as easily as they make it seem. Also, it's doubtful all of the Magickal beings agreed with the Sorcerer. Some must have been immune to his influence, some that didn't join him. Perhaps they were content with where they were and didn't want things to change. Maybe they had non-magickal family members they didn't want hurt. And there just had to be some who weren't aware of their Magickal blood. Someone forgot to share the family secret, losing it like an old gift. In any case, there was Magick hidden all throughout the "normal" people.

So, as they didn't want to "put Magickal gifts to waste", the leaders of the Magick Revolution came up with a test that every person with an uncertain magickal background was forced to complete. They decided to call it the Sorting; a foolproof way of determining if you had Magickal blood or not. Even if you had no idea, it would be able to show it. Unfortunately, there were too many people to Sort at one time. With the implication of the Sorting, the world was then divided into two groups: the Magick and Unsorted. Those with defined Magickal gifts controlled the rest of the population. Known as the Unsorted, they were expected only to survive until the day came for them to complete the test. We believe that the original Unsorted expected to live as they had before. But the Magick, still led by the Sorcerer, thought differently. They crowded the Unsorted into sprawling villages and separated them from the Magick cities. The Unsorted they were denied many privileges and freedoms in order to simplify the process of completing the Sorting. Rather quickly, the Magick neglected the upkeep of the Unsorted village and it fell into disrepair. The Unsorted were left to their own restricted devices to keep their existence going.

The gap between the two factions grew over the generations, until the only connection between the two was the Sorting that divided them.
