Read on, my brave warriors!
After their dance, as the ring of Firenation children watching began to dissipate, Aang pulled Katara to her feet, still trying to catch her breath, then smiled at her. "See, I told you: dancing is easy."
She nodded breathlessly, laughing and blushing under her dark skin at the same time; if Aang didn't known her so well, he wouldn't have noticed it. "When it's with the right person," she replied, squeezing his hand – Aang grinned to himself. He hadn't known what had possessed him to walk up to Katara that confidently and ask her for a dance, but he knew he'd done the right thing.
He knew he might just be that little bit closer to winning her affections.
She left, gifting him with one of her beautiful smiles – she was more shaken up than he: her heart was beating fast and something inside her was singing; she wasn't quite sure what. All Katara knew was that she had to get away for a little while to determine what she was feeling, and little did Aang know that he might've have just made her realise that he'd won her affections long ago. He wasn't closer to winning them; he was closer to her realising them.
Aang couldn't stop himself from grinning widely as he closed his eyes and began to dance with everyone else again, moving backwards and snaking his arms, humming merrily to himself.
He made a mental note to ask Katara to dance again with him, later, and he knew that she would agree. Even this thought made him marvellously happy, and he was just about to twirl around, still humming joyfully, completely unaware of the very angry headmaster standing at the entrance to the cave.
He was so wrapped up in his thoughts about Katara that he didn't notice everyone else had stopped dancing and was edging backwards. It was only when the headmaster yelled, "He's the one we want! The boy with the headband!" that he was shaken out of his thoughts.
There would be time for daydreaming later.
"Uh oh!"
