Author's Notes: Many thanks to my totally awesome editor 3VAD127. OK, my first fanfic ever, let alone songfic!! Please review, I'm open to constructive criticism, but please NO FLAMERS. Enjoy!!

Disclaimer: I regrettably don't own "Avatar" or the song Teardrops on My Guitar. That song is sung by Tylor Swift, and if I had a voice half as good as her I'd be rich!

Teardrops

"Mai."

Mai looked up, startled, from the book she was reading. It was Zuko.

"Yes, Prince Zuko," she replied.

He got up from the table where he had been sitting beside her.

"I'm going to go get ready for my date with that girl Uncle wants me to meet, OK?"

Mai nodded and went back to her book, but she wasn't concentrating on it.

You look at me,

I fake a smile so you won't see

That I want, and I need

Everything that we should be

I'll bet she's beautiful, that girl you talk about,

And she's got everything that I have to live without

Mai looked up. He was still there. "Are you OK, Mai?" Zuko asked her. Again, Mai nodded as he started to leave. She heard the doors close behind him as a tear trickled down her face.

You talk to me,

I laugh 'cause it's just so funny

That I can't even see

Anyone when you're with me

You say you're so in love, you've finally got it right

I wonder if you know you're all I think about at night?

You're the reason for the teardrops on my guitar

The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star

You're the song in the car I keep singin', don't know why I do

Another tear slipped down and hit her book. She couldn't stop thinking about him, his smile, his eyes…

You walk by me

Can you tell that I can't breathe?

And there you go, so perfectly

The kind of flawless I wish I could be

She'd better hold you tight, give you all her love

Look in those beautiful eyes and know she's lucky 'cause

You're the reason for the teardrops on my guitar,

The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star

You're the song in the car I keep singin', don't know why I do

The door creaked behind her, and she looked up hopefully. It was just Ty Lee.

"So how ya doing, Mai?" she asked.

Mai didn't answer.

So I drive home alone; as I turn out the light

I'll put your picture down and maybe get some sleep tonight

'Cause you're the reason for the teardrops on my guitar

The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart

You're the song in the car I keep singin', don't know why I do

You're the time taken up, but there's never enough,

And you're all that I need to fall into

You look at me,

I fake a smile you you won't see.
