Lucy Messer-McDonnell knelt at her godmother's grave stone. It was hard to believe it already had been a year since her godmother had passed. Lucy knew she was in Heaven with her godfather forever. She also knew that her godmother was with her mother, for whom she never knew because of a tragic accident. She remembered clearly the day she got the call a year ago.
-December 1, 2065-
Lucy had just gotten home from her godfather's touching funeral when she received an urgent phone call from Jade.
When she took the call she heard Jade crying and Alina and Tommy crying as well; she knew something was wrong.
Lucy feared the worst she asked, "Jade what is wrong?"
In between sobs Jade managed to get out, "Luce she's gone."
Luckily she was sitting because she knew it was going to be bad news. However, she knew her godmother Stella could never be apart from her godfather for long.
Once she finished talking with Christoph she hung up the phone and gathered her family and went over to Jade's place to start the process again.
Pushing away the sad memories Lucy remembered all the good times she had shared with her and her godfather, Mac. Her two favorite memories when they had gotten her first purple and silver bike for her sixth birthday, and then a new sports sedan as a gift after she received her driver's license.
Lucy smiled at the memory of the new car as if it were yesterday…
-Flashback to May, 2025-
Lucy had her eyes closed as her godmother led her to her surprise, with her parents following behind.
Anticipation was getting to her as Lucy asked, "Okay Aunt Stella are we almost there yet?"
Stella smiled and replied, "Three more steps…and we are here."
Mac also smiled and then said, "Okay you can open your eyes now baby girl."
When Lucy opened her eyes she gasped…her godparents had gotten her a silver Lexus!
Although she heard her parents groan she was beyond excited. She began jumping up and down with joy as she hugged Stella first and then Mac, and squealed, "Oh my word, oh my word, oh my word this is awesome and you guys are the best!"
Taking the keys from her godfather she got in the car and began looking around. All the while she heard her mother say, "Stella, Mac this is too much and…"
Mac interjected, "No it isn't Lindsay, Lucy earned it after passing the road test with flying colors not to mention she has been getting straight A's all year."
Stella also added, "Yeah she kept her end of the promise she made at the beginning of the school year and now we kept our end."
After finger the headstone for a few more minutes Lucy whispered, "I will be back to visit you and Uncle Mac real soon, I promise. I love you, forever and ever."
With that she stood up and walked back to her car to resume her life.
