A/N: After I finished writing the episode tag for Thanks for Choosing me I had this idea. This is a tag for 6x09. Let me know what you think!
"Do you want me to call someone to stay with you?" He asked. I said no, because I only want him. And before Maluku, before Afghanistan, he wouldn't have asked if he should call anyone, he wouldn't have asked if I wanted him to stay with me. He would have stayed, he would have given me a 'guy hug' and told me that everything was going to be okay because everything happens eventually.
Now he has Hannah.
Who isn't just a consolation prize.
A knock at my door startles me out of my thoughts; I haven't even had the time to succumb to more tears.
"Booth." I say in surprise.
"I can't just leave you like this." He says as he walks in. "What kinda beer do you have?"
"Like what?"
"Hurting like this. Knowing it's my fault."
"It's not all your fault, it is partly my fault. I was the one who originally turned you down." I say. He looks at me for a second, I think this is the first time he has really looked at me since we have gotten back. He doesn't comment on what I said.
"I told Hannah we were pulling an all nighter to get all the paperwork done." He says instead. "She told me to make sure that you get some sleep in the next few days."
"That is very considerate of her."
"Wanna play a game?" He asks like an exuberant child. Like the part of him that has been missing since I told him no.
"Yes."
"Great!" He rubs his hands together and thinks. "Do you have any games?"
"Scrabble. Oh and Candyland." Booth's clearly amused by that.
"I bought it for Hayley for Christmas."
"Of course you did." He's teasing me and it I have to admit that it does make me feel better.
"There's that smile." He's smiling too, but there is still sadness in his eyes and I know that it is mirrored in my own. Because he is here to comfort me but we both know that it is not the same as it used to be. And we don't know if we can ever get what we had back.
