Christian stood backstage, watching the big screen. Everything he was hearing, couldn't be true. His best friend was retiring from the business? That couldn't be true. It had to be some story line. Edge would be back in a few months, Christian just knew it. Retirement just wasn't an option.
Christian walked to the ramp entrance, greeting Edge as he walked into the back. "That isn't true, right? It's just a story line?" He asked, looking up at his best friend with sad eyes. "We've been through this, Jason. I have to retire." Edge replied, letting out a sigh. The two had talked previously about Edge's retirement, but it was obvious that it hadn't sunk in.
Edge stepped away from Christian, trying to hide the tears as he looked around backstage. "I'm going to miss this place, the people, the rush I get from going out to the ring." The wrestling business was what Edge lived for. It was his dream growing up, and knowing that he was being forced to walk away, hurt him more than anything. Leaving the business was like getting heart broken. It hurt that much.
"You'll be back, i'm sure of it." Christian said softly, looking over at his friend. "You can't leave this place for good. I mean, look at all the others who retired. They're back and better than ever, you're going to be like that as well." He said reassuringly, as he walked over and placed a hand on Edge's shoulder. The world hadn't seen the last of Adam Copeland, that much Christian was sure of.
"Maybe." Edge shrugged, glancing over at Christian. The tears in his eyes were obvious. It was breaking Edge's heart to leave, but he knew he had to. He knew that he had to leave for his health. "Listen, Jason, it's time I get out of here. I can't be breaking down in front of the whole locker room." Edge nodded his head, letting a tear drop roll down his cheek. "Yeah, you should get going." Christian agreed, hugging Edge. He knew that he would see Edge on his days off, but that wasn't the same. He was used to touring with Edge, everything was going to be different without him.
The two men broke the hug, and Edge looked around once more, taking everything in. "Bye." He said simply, walking towards the exit. Christian stood still, watching Edge walk out the doors of the arena. In that instant, the WWE had changed forever. It was never going to be the same again.
