A/N: So I am a full on Klaine supporter, but I have been wanting to write this ever since I saw the Ballad episode from Season 1. I just now got around to writing it. This is what Kurt might be thinking while playing the piano during "I'll Stand by You."
"Thank god I never missed a piano lesson." I sit down at the piano and begin to play.
He has the voice of an angel. The timing is right, the tempo and rhythm pitch perfect. I know he can never be mine, but I can't help but wish he was.
My fingers dance over the keys, never missing a note.
It's a hollow victory I suppose. He'll sing the song to his baby girl and then get back together to Quinn.
Not like he needs her. She's just a stupid cheerleader trying to get in with the football jock.
I've seen the type: bitchy, conniving, selfish. Everything has to go her way. The minute it doesn't, she gives the guy hell.
Makes me glad I'm gay.
I take a quick glance back at him and smile. He's really into the song now, singing with all his heart.
It's enough to make me melt into a puddle. But I hold it back, compose myself. I am playing accompaniment after all.
He finishes the song, hitting the last high note as my fingers follow suit, hitting the corresponding piano key. As the last note dies away, he turns to me, grinning.
"Hey man, that was great. I feel a lot better now."
"Good. So singing it out helped then."
"Yeah! So, um…I'm gonna go and uh…sing it to the sonogram at home." He walks over, putting a hand gently on my shoulder. "Thanks Kurt."
I gulp, trying to keep the butterflies at bay. "You're welcome. Glad I could be of service." With a final smile, he hops off the stage and leaves the auditorium.
I sigh wistfully as I gather my things. "So long Finn Hudson." A slight smile appears on my face. "For now anyway."
