I apologize for any missed mistakes.
Aragorn couldn't figure out who the elf ambassador from Mirkwood was; which was odd, considering who much he went to Mirkwood to visit Legolas. Actually, now that he thought about it, he hadn't seen Legolas in quite a while. He scowled and chased that thought away. Yes, he missed his best friend, but he had more important things to do.
He was trying to pay attention, he really was! But... he just couldn't seem to focus on anything except the unfamiliar Mirkwood elf.
Perhaps it was his appearance that drew Aragorn's notice. He wore a long helm that covered all of his scalp, yet it was obvious that he was completely bald. That, in itself, was odd. Aragorn had never heard of a bald elf. An elf's hair was his pride and joy; no one would ever cut it all off! Yet, this elf seemed to have done so.
Even more shocking, was his scars. They marred his face, cutting across his lips, and nose, and even his eyes. The tips of his ears had been sliced off and thin, twirling scars enveloped his arms. Aragorn couldn't say more, as the rest of the elf's body was covered.
Aragorn had never seen this elf before; he was sure of it! Yet, there was something strangely familiar about his sapphire eyes that he just couldn't seem to place...
The aforementioned elf had, of course, see Aragorn's gaze, yet was saddened when he saw no sudden flash or recognition in their depths. It was at that moment, that the halfling stood and declared he would take the ring to Mordor. The elf smiled at the young hobbit's bravery, yet it faded when he realized that his halfling was innocent and that this quest would ruin him. Aragorn stood and announced that he would follow Frodo to the ends of Middle-Earth, and he was soon joined by Gimli, Son of Gloin, Boromir of Gondor, Samwise Gamgee, Meriadaoc Brandybuck, and Peregrin Took. The elf was the last to stand and pledge his service before he glanced at bewildered Aragorn. He was almost begging the Valar mentally that the man would recognize him, yet they seemed ignorant of his pleas; for Aragorn stood and left when Elrond had proclaimed them the Fellowship of the Ring. Aragorn did not even throw him a glance on the way out and the elf sighed.
He didn't blame his best friend for not recognizing him, of course.
Legolas barely recognized himself anymore.
Author's Note:
This is me procrastinating on The Tale of Rubah Foxson. Sorry, but this idea struck and I couldn't let it go! This is probably going to be a one-shot unless you really what me to continue and talk about Aragorn realizing that the elf was Legolas and what exactly what it is that happened to him...
