Okay Aiko, this first chapter's for you! BTW, happy Easter! (I'm really late on that, sorry.)
"Honestly Tai, you don't need to go that far." Kari said as she watched her brother run around the house, looking for things that he could make a soup with. It was nice that he was trying to help her feel better, but she felt like he'll only make her feel worst.
"But I have to help you. Sure, you can't go to summer camp, but why leave you in this sorry condition?" He picked out some of the meat from yesterday and stared at it.
Oh right, summer camp, Kari thought. She really did want to go, but it could interfere with a plan she had in mind…
"Hey, do you think that taco meat would work well in soup?" Tai asked, trying to get his younger sister's attention.
"Depends on what type of soup you're making." she answered back. Though, not as enthusiastic as she normally would say. Tai's antics really couldn't distract her from thoughts, no matter how funny they were.
"Guess you're right. So what type of soup do you want?"
"Um, the instant kind?"
Tai frowned at this, but then quickly ran to the cupboard. "And would you like the worst instant kind, or the best instant kind?"
Kari had to smile. Leave it to her brother to be a distraction from everything. Good thing he'll be away for a while. "Give me the best kind, please."
She watched as her brother made two bowls, one for her and one for him. He was a good brother for trying, but there were just some things she had to keep secret.
"How about we watch the news?" Tai asked, holding the remote in his hand.
"Sure."
