She paused with her wrist back for a moment before knocking on the familiar door.

Tim Riggins opened it immediately and looked almost shocked to see her at his door. "Lyla." He said in his quiet, southern way.

She forced herself to smile. She had missed him so much and now that she was on his doorstep he seemed farther away than ever.

"I was just passing through and I decided to stop by."

"You just get in last night?"

He tried to make it sound casual but he was hoping she hadn't waited days to come and see him.

She laughed a little and said "Well no actually. I got in today. Just now actually. This was sort of the first place i came."

He smiled softly and the stood there for several moments before he placed his hands on her hips and pulled her into a kiss.

She responded with equal vibrancy and although his hands stayed on her hips, holding her close to him, she moved her hands up to his hair which she pulled to move him closer, then to his shoulders, and finally to his chest where her hands rested for awhile before expertly pulling at his buttons.

He kept one hand right on her waist but used to other to slam the door before returning it and leading her inside.

They barely made it to his bed before he fell back, pulling her on top of him. She laughed at his clumsiness and pulled at his belt.

He undid it for her and said "Sorry its a new belt." They both froze and remembered when he had told her that back when they were dating. When they were in high school and their relationship was still hopeful and full of childlike innocence.

The moment was broken and he said "I'm sorry Lila. I just can't."

He stayed still for a moment and then sat up. Part of Lila had been desperately hoping that even if he couldn't have sex with her he would still lay beside her and give her a false sense of comfort.

She reached her hand out for his, but fell back and lay her hand down quietly.

He turned around, lips parted and determined to tell her everything.

To tell her how much he missed her and loved her. And how nothing could dull that love he felt for her. Not all the miles on Earth or all the women in Texas.

It burned like a white hot flame in the center of him and when she left it burned him so badly he thought it would never stop.

He wanted to tell her how he wanted nothing more than to delve into it again and find comfort there instead of pain, but when he opened his mouth all he said was "It was good seeing you Lila."

She nodded, fighting back a wave of tears so hard it stung, and raced out of his room.

He heard the front door shut and closed his eyes, surprised to find tears of his own there.

"Oh Lila, you always were a mystery to me." He muttered, but she was gone so he just found himself talking to the shadows where she should be.
