Three: Life of Blue Eyes
The three apes stare in amazement at the female baboon before them. Her eyes reflect a soul of intelligence. Caesar steps forward and speaks first in sign language. "Who are you?"
"I am called Cheesecake. What brings you to the zoo?"
Caesar became animated with his hands. "We received news of apes living here in this zoo. We needed to check this place out."
Cheesecake appeared interested. "Yes, there are a few primates living here. My troop and I are taking care of them since the humans abandoned the zoo. Most of the caretakers passed away. When we landed here, the apes and others were alone."
Caesar watched her intently. "The humans have been devestated by the disease. We recently encountered a group of humans. They seem to be struggling for survival."
Cheesecake didn't appear surprised by his words. She spoke with one hand. "Things are changing on earth so it seems."
Caesar's face formed a frown. "You are not from around here. Where are you from?"
"My troop and I journeyed from a distant planet. We have been to earth several times but it now appears that earth is going through a transformation of some kind. It seems that a new world is being created."
The three apes watched her in fascination. She definately was from somewhere else. She was viewing earth through the eyes of an observer. Her words were careful and deliberate.
The three companions could see other baboons in and around the zoo. Caesar found this strange. What were baboons from outer space doing at this zoo? The chimp leader had a feeling of caution in the pit of his stomach.
Maurice had many questions to ask the female baboon. "What is your interest in the zoo?"
Cheesecake was quick to respond. "We care about these creatures and they have been abandoned since the disease has devoured many of the humans. Extinction is not something we want to happen, whether humans or other animals."
A loud roar came from behind a fence that enclosed an area. It sounded like it came from a massive animal. The three apes slightly jumped but Cheesecake didn't move at all.
A frown appeared on Caesar's face. "If you care about the humans and these animals, are you able to help with the spread of the disease?"
Cheesecake was quick to reply. "We do feel it is our place to interfer with earth's problems. Humans are more than capable of solving their own troubles and you are too. It is a code we have always lived by, we do not interfer on other planets." The mysterious animal roared again. Cheesecake spoke again. "But the situation here on this planet is grave, we may try to stop this disease if we can. It is a conflict for us.
Maurice's eyes met Casear's. He didn't know what he thought of this baboon and her troop. He felt a pang of fear in his stomach. Just then a gigantic lizard broke through the fence, heading towards the three apes and the female baboon. The roar of the animal was deafening.
