A/N: Can you tell how much I love this brotp?
"This is nice," Sango said, reclining her head against the sacred tree's trunk and closing her eyes.
"It's nice, alright… until I have to help you get up," Inuyasha grumbled.
Sango just sighed. Inuyasha's bad temper wasn't such a bother anymore… Years of friendship had seen to that.
"Are your kids coming tomorrow?" He asked.
"Probably. Haru and her husband have to travel at a slower pace because of the baby, but they should be here soon enough."
"Good," Inuyasha remarked.
Two old friends shared a companionable silence in the shade of Goshinboku.
The wind blew softly, giving Sango goosebumps. She opened her heavy eyes and looked at Inuyasha.
This isn't fair, she mused. Aside from his slumped shoulders and some wrinkles on his face, Inuyasha didn't look old. She was secretly happy for his light nasolabial folds.
It means he's laughed a lot, after all…
He was sitting with his eyes closed, ears twitching now and then. Tetsusaiga rested against his shoulder, but Sango knew the sword wasn't a battle companion anymore.
It was just an old habit.
Like me.
Miroku and Kagome weren't there, but at least they still had each other.
I am a coward, Inuyasha, she thought for the thousandth time. Sango knew what was coming, had known it for the whole winter, but she hadn't had the heart to tell him.
Without thinking it through, she extended her arm toward him and put her hand atop his. Inuyasha's eyes snapped open in surprise, but he didn't look at her face.
After a moment, his hand turned around and held hers tightly.
He already knows it.
Finally, mercifully, Inuyasha looked at Sango. She tried to give him a reassuring smile, but his sad eyes made her feel like crying.
The former taijiya wanted to tell her hanyou friend how much he had changed her life, and how grateful she was that he hadn't let her kill Kohaku. She wanted to apologize for not having trusted him at first, for having stolen his sword, tried to kiss him when she'd been drunk by the Mist of Sages, yelled at him during her two pregnancies and broken Kagome's favorite pot.
She preferred to stay silent, though.
"You should take a nap," he said quietly.
Are you Inuyasha? I will slay you!
Stupid fool! Killing Kohaku will only please Naraku!
Don't underestimate me! I'm a demon slayer, I don't fall for dirty tricks!
Sango, keep still! I gotta lot of things to say to you, so don't you dare die!
I'm sorry. I cannot stay with you any longer.
Will you stop yapping? Just stay together, 'cause you fight well!
Houshi-sama, even if Inuyasha fully transforms into a demon, I want to stay with him.
Sango nodded and closed her eyes again.
She felt Inuyasha briefly squeeze her hand before letting go.
A/N: She could be sleeping or dead in the end, it's really up to you (sorry!) I've read some amazing fics about elderly Inuyasha, and I think Miroku and Sango had already passed away in all of them. That might've been true, but what if the ones left behind weren't lovers?
Ps: I know "The Last Banquet of Miroku's Master" was a filler episode, but I couldn't resist mentioning inusan's almost kiss lol.
