So in the story Riddle grows up in the orphanage where he is brutally mistreated for being magical after there's been a change of management. He's successful at school but Dumbledore keeps a very close watch on him. Hermione is sorted into Slytherin and slowly falls in love with him. She drags him into Hogsmeade and she gets horribly drunk and they check into a hotel Hermione booked and Tom finds the room to be reserved for 'Mr and Ms Voldemort'. They get into trouble because it wasn't a Hogsmeade day and Dumbledore almost gets Tom expelled, but Hermione blackmails Dumbledore into taking back the expulsion.
