"Wh... what did you just say?" I asked.

"Lee, I'm sorry, I just don't think it's working out," Ben replied.

"So... you decided to take me to a concert, just to break up with me?" I asked.

"Well, I guess I just wanted to make our last date special. So we could enjoy our last time together," he replied.

"Let's see if you enjoy it now," I replied. He looked confused for a second, before I stomped on his foot as hard as I could and then stormed out of the concert hall.

I sat on the front steps of the building and rested my head on me hands, close to tears. There was a guy, with the hood on his sweatshirt up, sitting on the other side of the steps and smoking a cigarette. I guess he noticed me and took pity, because he came over and sat next to me. "What's wrong?" he asked. I could've sworn I recognized his voice, but I figured I was just being stupid.

"Nothing... Everything. Too much to explain," I replied. He put his arm around me.

"Well, whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be okay soon," he said.

"Thanks," I replied, "You got another cigarette, by any chance?"

"How old are you?" he asked incredulously.

"...Fifteen," I replied.

"And you smoke?" he followed up.

"Not often," I said.

"Well... I won't give you a cigarette," he began. I sighed. "...but you can take a drag off mine," he finished. He held it out to me.

I took it from him and said "Thanks." I took a long drag and then handed it back to him.

"What's your name?" he asked.

"I'm Lee. And you are?" I replied.

"I'm Gerard," he said. Wait a second...

"I'm sorry for what I'm about to do," I said. I reached up and pulled his hood off. "I knew I recognized your voice!"

He smiled. "I'm guessing you like My Chemical Romance," he said.

"Yup," I replied, "Okay, this is gonna sound really cliche, but I'll say it anyway. MCR saved my life."

"That doesn't sound cliche. If it's the truth, then it's the truth," he replied, smiling, "Now, do you wanna tell me what's wrong?"

I told him the whole story about my boyfriend... well, ex-boyfriend. "Damn, that sucks," he said, "You know what, you deserve something special to cheer you up. Our set starts in a couple minutes, how about you come with me and you can watch from backstage?"

"Fuck yeah!" I exclaimed, "Thanks!" He laughed and then we got up and headed back into the building. He kept his arm around me the whole time as he led me backstage. As he and the rest of the band walked onstage, I found a place behind the curtain where I could see them but the crowd couldn't see me. I watched their whole set intently, and then Gerard did something toward then end that surprised me.

Before the last song in their set, he said, "This last song is dedicated to my new friend lee. She's going through something hard and she really needs some cheering up." I smiled.

When they walked backstage after the song ended, I ran up to Gerard and just hugged him. He returned it wholeheartedly. "You are seriously the best," I said.

"You're gonna love me even more in a few seconds," he replied. I was confused for a moment, but then understood when he called the rest of the guys over and introduced me to them. He explained to them how we met outside and they smiled. We all talked for a while, and eventually they had to leave. Before he walked away, Gerard took my hand and kissed it. "I hope things get better for you." He looked into my eyes for a few seconds, then smiled and followed after the rest of the guys. As long as I live, I will never forget that night.
