The Worm.
Prologue: Awakening.
I feel as if I'm drifting... Floating if you will. There's a slight feeling of nausea hovering somewhere in the back of my mind. Bubbles of some kind brush against my armoured hide, and I begin to open my eyes...
"Doctor, come have a look at this. He's waking up. I see movement here." A young looking, labcoat-clad lab assistant said, trying to mask his excitment. The creature stirred once more, and opened it's many eyes to take in it's surroundings.
I've opened my eyes to the strangest sight ever. I'm in some kind of technological place, I can't quite put my finger on it. But it's white. Very white. Must be some kind of research lab... I exhale deeply. Well, I try to exhale, but my mouth doesn't seem to work properly. What's going on? Armoured hide? Mouth not working how it should? What exactly has happened to me? Wait, I feel a new sensation... Knowledge, power. Oh, the absolute power! YES! I can feel it flowing through my veins! So much knowledge, so much information! What's this? Combat tactics? Procedures, enhancements, tactics, information on weapons... Yes, give it to me, I want it all!
I breathe a deep sigh. I need to calm myself. Where has this sudden thirst for power come from? I still don't know exactly what has happened to me. I don't feel right, something strange is going on.
Perhaps if I close my eyes, and open them again, this might have all gone away...
The creature closed it's eyes again, and slumped against the back of the containment tube. Several scientists looked on curiously. This was strange behaviour, something they've never seen in an experiment before. Then again, none of the others have gotten to this stage yet. None even passed the incubational period. But this one, there was something special about him. You could see it. There was a certain menace about the way he would look at you, as if he was staring into your very soul through your eyes.
Perhaps I should just go back to whatever sleep I was in before, and this might all just vanish... But it seems that something is trying to keep me conscious... Whatever it is, it's rooted deep in my mind. Wait... I feel something now, a drowsyness... It doesn't feel natural. Have they drugged me? What is going on? Why do... I feel so... tired all of a sudden?
The scientists and other various lab-workers watch on intently as the creature they called Kanden fell into a forced slumber. It looked as though the experiment was a success. Several lights dimmed before shutting off completely as the lab crew shuffled out of the small white room with gleeful abandon. The experiment was a complete success. Oh how Administration would reward them! The fools, they knew nothing of what they had created...
