In Her Tomb By The Sounding Sea...
She sits alone on the poolside looking out across the lagoon; she just finished her last cigarette, the smoke still lingering on her lips. She wishes the world would just stop, Freeze, but she knows it never will. The world is a fragile thing it changes in an instance. Turns on a dime.
It's been seven years since you left me, since you left everyone. Seven years I cried waiting for you to show up, practically killing myself over you. No one knows how you died, some say you were murdered some say you got kidnapped, I try my best not to believe them, I know you're still out there.
I was sixteen when it happened. Wednesday March 7th was the exact day, when you didn't show up to school I figured you were sick, you weren't answering my texts so I decided afterwards I would walk to your house to keep you company. I knocked five times on your front door, no one answered so I decided to climb the tree outside your window to see if you were there but all I saw was an empty bed. I climbed down and walked home, the door shut behind me as I heard a shriek coming from the kitchen I rushed in to find my mother standing at the kitchen counter with her hands pressed onto the table with the phone shattered on the floor.
"Momma what's wrong! What happened?" I yelled as I ran to her side, she grabbed me and cried into my shoulder.
"Mija! Mija, Mija, MIja!" she cried.
"Si. Momma, Si. What is it?" I was worried, why was she acting like this? Little did I know that the next words were going to be the words that killed me.
"Brittany…She's gone mija! She's dead!" My mother spat at me through tears. I felt my backpack slipped of my shoulder I heard I hit the ground, I felt my face drain, my heart stopped, things started to slow down the world around me was quiet, I was numb. My Brittany, my sweet Brittany…..
