Hermione coughed violently as she grasped at the window sill to prevent herself from falling, fearing that she could pass out at any moment.
Her breath was coming in short and sharp bursts. As she fought for every single breath, the witch felt as though she was eleven years old again and leaving her parents for the first time.
At the time she hadn't completely understood what was happening, however now she was well aware that what she had experienced was a panic attack.
If it wasn't for the fire raged outside her bedroom door, Hermione would have assumed she was having another. It was almost as though a dragon had gone on the rampage through her house. Nothing was surviving the devastation that was being left in its wake, and if she didn't find a way out soon, neither would she.
The young witch slapped her hands against the window frame as she tried to escape. She had foolishly left her wand downstairs, and so there was no other way out for her.
Hermione saw a young couple pass by her house. She banged forcefully on the double glazed glass and let out feeble cries for help that were barely audible above the crackles of the creeping fire.
The lack of oxygen she was receiving made the witch feel dizzy. She redoubled her efforts to open her window, knowing that it was imperative to inhale some clean, fresh air.
Everything around Hermione became blurry as she began to bang her fists against the window. The world around her was spinning, and her head was pounding. She could only just muster up enough energy to keep focussed on trying to get the window open.
She felt the ground below her suddenly disappear. The witch tried and failed to push herself to her feet.
Her last coherent thought as she lay on the burning hot ground, was that she would never take the air she breathed for granted again.
Just as Hermione closed her eyes and finally succumbed to unconsciousness, she felt a pair of strong arms scoop her up and carry her away from the fiery hell.
