For the Ultimate Pairing Drabble comp with the pairing Lily Luna/Rose and the prompt running.

.

Lily awakes to a pounding on the door to the hotel she's in. It's the third hotel in the last week because she doesn't stay in one place for too long. She rolls over with a groan and checks the clock – two thirty in the morning. "It better be damn good," she says to herself as she makes her way to the door.

When she opens it, she sees the last person she wants to – Rose. Her cousin is standing there, her red-tented brown hair wet and her hands on her hips. She looks beautiful when her blue eyes flash angrily.

Shaking her head, Lily forces the thoughts out of her head. "Rose," she greets, standing aside, "do you want to come in?" Lily knows it's a bad idea to let her cousin in.

Rose is angry at her. And Lily isn't too surprised. She has been running away since she graduated a few months ago. She's running from the expectations, from the future, from the girl standing in front of her. Her breath shouldn't hitch when Rose comes in the room. Her heart shouldn't flutter when Rose turns her smile on her.

She shouldn't be in love with her cousin.

She knew that she would be found one day. She was just hoping that it wouldn't be Rose to find her. But she's never been that lucky.

"Why'd you do it?" Rose asks, breaking Lily out of her thoughts. Rose is sitting on the bed, while Lily's still holding the door open.

Lily quickly shuts the door and forces herself to calm down. "Leave?" she questions even though there is no mistaking what Rose is talking about. "I always wanted to see the world, and leaving was the only way."

Rose raises her eyebrow. "Leaving without a word?" She sounds wounded. "We've all been worried sick about you. Your dad has hardly slept since you left. Gran has been crying and your mum has been upset. Even your brothers are worried. And I…I just want to know why."

Twisting her hands, Lily shrugs. "I don't know," she lies. "I just knew that I couldn't stay in England anymore. I felt trapped and the only way to break free was to leave without saying a word." Because you would've talked me out of it and I will always listen to you, she adds mentally.

"Are you going to come home?" Rose asks.

Lily shakes her head. "Not for a while. I need to find something first."

Rose rises. She makes her way to the door before Lily speaks again. "Tell them that I'm fine and not to worry. I'll come back when I find what I'm looking for." She nods and opens the door. "Tell them I'm sorry that it has to be this way." When she raises her eyebrows at Lily again, she continues. "Because I am sorry."

Rose nods, and shuts the door. "I'm sorry that I love you and need to find out how to overcome it."
