To the Keep

By-Larien

Summary- A poem on the death of Haldir during the battle at Helm's Deep. I know he didn't actually die, but it's worth reading anyway. Please, please review!

A/N- Yes, I know Haldir didn't die. But this was inspired from the LOTR movies. So if you want to quarrel, too bad.

Disclaimer- If they were my own, I wouldn't be wasting my time on fanfiction now would I?

So it is on this wall you end.

You fought bravely in the hands of death

You carry no regrets.

As others flee before your pained eyes,

The swift wings of death

Are quicker then your feet

For you do not flee fast enough

And you cannot join them now

There is no pain beyond the wall…

Someone shouts your name

Perhaps it is you

Who can tell over the other cries?

Your fight lies within you now

Rest thy lifeless limbs, oh warrior

And see the blood spilled before you

For it is here you will reside

With friend and foe, all the like

Corpses don't look different

When painted with blood unmoving

This is death

Of which humans often toil

Yet here you have observed

And now die in the very midst

Of that which you had no control

It seems so quick now

To loose a battle

You never got to fight

But this could not have been avoided

Even with your brave sword

And so it ends

And you lay your head to rest

On a living shoulder

To journey to another keep

Where you will find eternal rest

Haldir of Lorien.
