Think of Me When it Rains
Crimson eyes stared steadily heavenward. Normally these eyes would be emotionless and cold, like icy chips of frozen blood, but today they were raw and passionate as Hiei stared at the world above him, his gaze never wavering even to blink.
Navy blue clouds thickly covered the normally clear, light blue of the sky, trapping the world in a heavy haze of air and water, masking day as twilight. Eyes finally closing, the stoic fire demon deeply inhaled the cool air, savoring the fresh, heavy scent of the promised rain.
For a moment the world held its breath, as if all of nature was waiting with him in the moment of perfect calm before the storm.
There was no crash of thunder or strike of lightning, but the sky opened just the same. Without warning the world was suddenly filled with the beautiful pitter-patter of a steady summer shower.
Opening his garnet eyes, Hiei tilted his head to the sky, allowing a rare smile to grace his lips, before pulling off his long black cloak and allowing the cool drops to touch his skin.
He couldn't help but feel at peace at times like this. When the world was quiet, save the music of the falling drops. When the sky was dark and the air was heavy and cool, his mind filled with thoughts of hair as blue as the hidden sky and eyes of cotton candy. "Think of me when it rains," she'd told him. And he always did.
It wasn't fair that they had to spend so much time apart, but life, as every mother has ever said to her child, is not fair. The simple reality was that he couldn't go, and she couldn't stay, leaving them with cherished visits that always ended too soon, and too much time in between. But she always came back to him.
"Think of me when it rains," she'd whispered through the wind. Just a little piece of her to keep with him while he awaited her return.
"It's raining, Botan," he whispered lovingly through the falling water. He knew that she could hear him.
Well, it rained this afternoon and I suppose you can find inspiration anywhere. Yes, I love the rain and the idea just seemed so perfect…
I see a lot of fics where Hiei is in Makai, and Botan is waiting for him. I guess I just liked the idea of him waiting for her, I mean she has her own duties as a ferry girl, right?
