"If you're going to kill me, do it as yourself,"

Corrin awoke, gasping for air with sweat pouring down the sides of his face. He looked over quickly to check if he had woken up his wife in his momentary lapse of control, but sighed in relief when his eyes were met with Azura's sleeping figure.

Bits and pieces of that fateful day were slowly trickling back into existence in Corrin's mind. King Garon's sabotage. Queen Mikoto's sacrifice. Corrin's loss of control and realization of his heritage. Azura's song.

Corrin could see the determination and trust in Azura's clear blue eyes in that moment through his dreams. He watched as though he were sitting inside of his own body in that moment, helpless to stop the rampaging dragon that was him. He watched himself slam Azura to the ground and nearly kill her with his claws. He watched as the trust never left Azura's eyes.

The Nohr princess had believed in him that day, and every day after. She supported him in the war as a fellow soldier, then as his wife as they both succumbed to the feelings that had brewed inside of them.

She had believed in him when he didn't deserve it.

Corrin turned on his side to face his wife, letting out a heavy sigh. He was glad Kana had stopped sneaking out of Shigure's house to sleep in his, because the younger dragon would have awoken with the sound. He wrapped an arm around Azura's waist and pulled himself closer, taking comfort in her presence.

"You're thinking too loudly," Azura murmured. She turned in Corrin's grip to face him. The dragon smiled softly as he noticed that Azura's eyes were still clouded with sleepiness.

"I'm sorry, I'll think more quietly," He apologized. Azura chuckled.

"What are you thinking about in the dead of night?" She questioned.

"The day I nearly killed you," Corrin replied softly. "You trusted me when you hardly knew me, when I didn't deserve it. Given, you had to calm me down to save more innocent Hoshidan lives, but you risked yours in the name of trust."

"You trusted your former family that they understood you made your decision in the name of bringing about peace," Azura said. "You loved them, even when they held a sword to your neck. You still believed in them when they told you lies to lessen their pain, even when the lie was that they never loved you."

"Xander, Camilla, Leo, and Elise have earned everything I have given back to them. They raised me," Corrin protested. "You, I had done nothing to earn your trust, especially when that trust could have cost you your life."

"You already had, even without knowing it," Azura replied simply. "You earned my trust by showing rage that Queen Mikoto had died in your place. You earned my trust by bringing about happiness to your birth siblings by choosing to side with Hoshido." Azura shook her head. "You earned my trust because you're you, and everyone, regardless of whose side they're on, can be swayed with your words and your actions." The Nohr princess smiled softly. She cupped her husband's cheek with her hand a ran her thumb across it. "Don't be bothered by this anymore. You deserved my trust then, and you deserve my trust now."

Corrin smiled. "Thank you, Azura." He placed a quick kiss to her forehead. "Never doubt that your trust is misplaced. Although, it is quite obvious, seeing as both of our children have inherited your bright blue hair."

Azura chuckled at the statement. "Admit it, you were angry at least one of them hadn't inherited your hair color until Kana transformed into a dragon."

"I will neither confirm or deny that statement." Corrin said simply.

Azura shook her head, smiling. "Go to sleep, Corrin." The blue haired songstress cuddled closer to her husband, humming softly till his breathing evened out.
