Jamie looked up from her book, "The Life of Mother Theresa", to see her boyfriend Landon standing over her. Even though they were the odd couple out, Landon being the most popular, sought-after, bad-boy in school; and Jamie being the preacher's goody-two-shoes daughter; they loved each other to the point of death. There wasn't anything the two didn't know about each other. Well, except for Landon's little secret. "Listen, Jamie.," he began with a hint of reluctance in his voice. "There's something I really need to tell you." Jamie looked up at the love of her life. What could possibly be the matter? Landon was perfect, at least to her. Jamie was blind to any of his faults. "I have leukemia." Jamie simply couldn't believe it. It can't be true, she decided. There was nothing wrong with her Landon. But the moment she gazed up into his silky brown eyes, she knew she was wrong. His pupils were soft and teary. Jamie realized he was crying. Then she realized that she was, too. "Oh, my love!" Jamie moaned as she threw herself at Landon. They became entwined in each other's arms, ready to stay together until the sun's last flicker went out and darkness came. That darkness would be Landon's death. The tragic couple fell asleep this way, until dawn's first light awakened Jamie. She gazed lovingly at the one she admired most, her Landon. But he was gone. And somehow Jamie has known he would be gone when she awoke. The darkness had finally come. Jamie cried that day. She cried the next. In fact, there was never an hour that went by that she did not cry. There was never an hour that went by in which she did not think of her Landon. Forever and for ever she stayed in the same spot. Jamie stayed in the spot where her beloved Landon had died. Died in her loving arms. She was there yesterday, she is there today and she will be there every day that the gods curse her with living without the one she loves. Jamie is now old and forgotten. But she still lays there with Landon, whose remains long ago were vanquished. For it is a curse to live without your true love, such a curse that it is like you are not even living. So you might say Jamie did rejoin Landon, and they are together today. Together for an eternity. And as the surf crashes against the sand, so the world turns. With Jamie, or with Landon, or with them both. So the world turns.
