Story: Naruto

Summary: Sakura refuses to be a bystander in this war

Pairing: Slight Sasusaku

A/N: Taken from my tumblr. Just a random idea that popped into my head.

I knew he hated me. He always did, but just the reconfirmation of his words of completely uncaring made me shed a tear. Again.I wanted nothing more than to punch myself for such foolishness. I seemed to break down at ever word that Sasuke-kun would say to or about me.

Have I really not changed at all since I was 12?

Kakashi-sensei had pulled us up on the overhanging ledge of where his kunai and string had saved us. Hot lava burned the ground beneath us, but Sasuke-kun and Naruto remained safe on Sasuke-kun's hawk.

Naruto's new powers never ceased to amaze me. Both he and Sasuke-kun couldn't even be considered regular ninja anymore.

Well, they were never regular ninja to start with.

But now, it was as if they had evolved into something else entirely. Even with me being both the Fifth Hokage's and a Sanin's disciple, I wasn't like them at all. My seal, yes, gave me much more power and chakra than I ever had, but it wasn't enough.

I stared down at the battle ground where Kaguya seemed to be waiting for Sasuke-kun and Naruto to make the next move. I didn't understand how, now they would only able to fight in the air.

Then again, I did just witness Naruto fly, so I guess they'll be ok.

Kakashi-sensei must have sensed my anxiety as he put a hand on my shoulder.

"Sakura-"

"Sensei, I know not to be foolish."

He removed his hand reassured that I wasn't about to try and race into battle again. "I know that my own abilities cannot do anything to the enemy were facing now,"

I looked him in the eye then,

"But I am NOT useless."

"Sakura, if this is about what Sasuke said,"

"Regardless of what I feel, or what he feels, there is a war going on and I'll be damned if the only role I play is the damsel in distress."

I knew what I was saying was something that I should have gotten in my head from the start. I knew that I was hopelessly in love with Sasuke-kun and that he could care less about me, but that didn't matter right now.

All that matters right now is winning this war.

I got up from my knees and looked behind me to where the solid ground was untouched from the lava.

"You want to find the Edo Tensei Hokages don't you?"

I smiled back at my sensei. He could read me like a book. "It's not a bad idea at all Sakura. I certainly like it better than waiting here."

I held out my hand, and nodded with my head in the direction for us to run. I was grateful for it being nightfall. It was strangely peaceful in the midst of the war.

"Ready, sensei?" I asked.

We both looked back at our other teammates who were in a standstill with Kaguya. Neither of us felt bad about leaving since we knew here we were both collateral damage. We knew our own mission in helping win this war.

I noticed a single shooting star fly across the clear night sky.

"Sakura?" Kakashi asked.

I let my gaze fall from the sky and back to battle field. I almost chocked. Though we were quite some distance from each other, I could make out the black spiky duck hair turned round in my direction. Sasuke-kun was looking at me.

Or glaring at me. Most likely glaring.

He didn't give a smirk, or a scowl. He simply gave a light nod and then his hawk took him and Naruto father away from me and Kakashi-sensei and towards Kaguya.

I felt smiling like an idiot but decided against it since I had just declared that my feelings were not important at the moment.

"Right! Let's go!" I said, and then Kakashi-sensei and I raced off in the opposite direction of the battle eager to find the edo tensei hokages.

We can win this war.
