Um, random inspiration after completing Radiant Dawn for the second time combined with a desire to see a ZelgiusxLehran fanfic. Original idea included a lemon, but it didn't come out that way. Tell me if you like it. Oh yeah, it's basically a drabble.

Disclaimer: I do not own Fire Emblem in any way. Wish I did though, cause then all the bishies wouldn't even have to fight. Fire Emblem - the RTS that wants to be a BL game.

Warning: MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS, and implied yaoi.

Lehran's Death

Neither wanted to be alone, yet both were. Zelgius needed companionship for, like so many of the Branded he did not age as fast as beorc did. Lehran needed companionship in someone who knew his problems. Altina, his first love, was long dead, and the current adorable Apostle was not the true one. Misaha had known, but she was now dead, along with most of the heron clan. Soan had died so many years ago, and he had always been a true friend. Now Dehginsea, he was alive, but he lacked any compassion for the other laguz. And he had so warped the truth that now he couldn't tell the lie from the truth. All because of a simple mistake... Lehran wondered briefly, would it have been better to tell the people of Begnion? Tell them that for generations their leader, their Apostle was one of the Branded descended from not only Altina but also Lehran, whose name was all but forgotten in the mists of time.

Lehran looked at the youngling. That was what everyone save Dehginsea was to him. So young, so very, very young. Even the oldest of the Branded was still so young. This Zelgius was lonely...like Yune. Like his goddess, sweet, fallible, imperfect, chaotic Yune. The Branded were Yune's children, a chaotic force in an orderly world. How amusing that Ashera's home was ruled by Yune's children. And now another one was to live there, and as their General, no less. How the senators would react if they knew the true heritage of their Apostle and knew that the man they knew as 'Sephiran' was an ancient heron who had lost his gifts. As Misaha said, his gifts were given to his children.

These days there was so little left for him. He had left the laguz to their fate now, and had nothing left. The world he had strived for did not exist. Laguz and beorc could not coexist; both were too prideful, too stubborn to even contemplate the idea. And although the royalty of Crimea might try to form friendly relations with Gallia, their people would not accept it. If only everyone knew that Sanaki was a descendant of beorc and laguz. If only the laguz parent did not lose their powers after the child was born. Then perhaps everything would be alright.

But it was too late for 'if only's. Lehran had lived too long and now there was so little left. This Zelgius would be his final companion, before he joined his children and his children's children in the after-life. At least there he could relax, away from it all, away from all the pain and suffering his people went through.

That night the two lonely men, one Branded, one laguz without power, united in their pain, became as one. Lehran's sorrow knew no bounds and Zelgius knew he would never leave the man who loved everyone so deeply but was never loved in return. They found solace in each other, and Zelgius swore to do whatever his master asked of him, even if he was ordered to die. Their final moments were spent in the Tower of Guidance, Zelgius having been defeated by the Hero Ike, a man who loved and trusted in people more than even Lehran. Lehran himself, died cradled in the arms of Sanaki, his youngest child and Micaiah, the last true Apostle of Begnion and the 15th Queen of Daein. In stories later told about the four heroes who sealed Yune in order to protect the world, all said that Lehran died with Zelgius' name on his lips and a smile on his face. All we can assume is that he was met in the afterlife by his last true love.
