A/N:This is a really random plot bunny for a drabble that attacked me last night. Please read, enjoy and review!
Sundown
Luna Lovegood strolled serenely through the near-empty stone corridor of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardary.
She was humming lightly and watching the still lake and mountains out of each passing window. Luna had left dinner in the Great Hall early, so she could get to her common room without too many students passing by. It was nice to be alone sometimes, she thought.
She reached the Ravenclaw tower and was about to recieve a question, when she heard somebody call her name.
"Luna! Hey, Luna!" It said. Luna turned and spotted Neville Longbottom approaching her. Luna liked Neville, he was always friendly and didn't avoid her like some of the boys.
"Hello Neville. I was just about to get my parchment and quill to study Stygian Gorseflies. They love the sundown on Fridays," she explained.
"Are you writing an article about them for the Quibbler?" He asked genuinely. Luna was extremely pleased. Nobody had ever inquired about her fathers work before.
She smiled happily, "Yes, I'm doing research for it all this month. What is it you wanted?" Luna asked, thinking about why Neville had approached her.
"Oh, I was wondering if I could borrow your book on desert plants. I have an essay to write." He ran a hand through his hair and smiled at the younger girl.
"Of course you can. I'll be back in just a moment, providing I get the question right," she replied. The eagle-shaped knocker relayed a riddle and Luna thought for a moment.
"Hmm, is the correct colour black?" She answered and the door swung open, granting her access. "You're welcome to come through, Neville. I won't be a minute," she told him, but he shook his head.
"It's OK, I'll wait just here," he said and Luna nodded. She was thrilled that Neville was treating her like a friend, because not many people did that. She walked quickly to her dorm and collected some parchment, a quill and the Herbology book. Upon returning to the hall of the fifth floor, she found Neville leaning on the wall staring at the ceiling.
"Looking for Welkinites, Neville?" Luna asked, surprising him.
"Uh, no...I was just thinking," he replied, startled. She simply smiled and handed him the book. Neville thanked Luna and went back to the Gryffindor tower, leaving Luna alone in the loading corridors. She sighed contently and began her journey to the ground floor, so she could analyse the feeding habits of Stygian Gorseflies.
Luna found a small space to sit near the lake as she established her searching for the night-favouring creatures.
A cool breeze blew her blonde hair across her forehead. She pushed a few stray strands back behind her ear and watched the bright, orange and retiring sun settle slowly behind a dark grey silhouette of rocky hill.
