Prologue:

Monsters In My Closet

"Eighth floor, please." I said with a smile to the operator who smiled in return as I enter the elevator. Yesterday I got a phone call from Abrams publishing. They said that they wanna meet me regarding a story that I sent them last week. Truthfully, I never thought that they will take interest in that story. I mean, come on, writing is not really my passion because back when I was a kid, I prefer reading books more than writing essays. I never realized that writing your own story will perk someone's attention. Yes, that is right. I wrote a story about myself and a girl from the past. A girl who will always have my heart.

Ding!

"Eighth floor." Says the elevator guy.

I smiled once again and then leave. A girl who I believed is Mr. Abrams' secretary approached me and sent me a creepy smile while batting her eyelashes. Come on, I don't have time for this. Yeah, I am just an average looking girl but according to some of my friends there is something about me that attracts other people hence the reason why this blonde bitch is eyeing me up and down. All I wanna do is to walk out of this place but then again if I do that, I wont be able to talk to Mr. Abrams and failing to talk to him means having zero chance to have the story published and when that happens I would feel like I am failing 'my girl'. So with a deep breath I just ignored the girl and let her lead me to Mr. Abrams' office not even bothering to glance at her and acknowledge her small talks. After a few slow seconds of walking with the bitch, there, posted on the wall is a name plate which has Mr. Abrams name printed on it. Without wasting any more time, I knocked on the door and pushed it open.

"Hi! Good morning. My name is Santana Lopez." I blurted out with a fake excitement in my voice to the man seated behind a mahogany desk.

The man took his eyes away from his computer to look at me. He looks at me like he's trying to remember who I am. Honestly, he looks so dumb with his face scrunched up into confusion so to save him from his misery, I introduced myself properly.

"I'm the one who sent you the story 'My Sassy Girl'. Someone from your office called me to report here today." God! the secretary let me into his office so he should be aware that I'll be here.

"Oh! Yeah! I'm so sorry. I was so busy sending out e-mails to my business partners because there's gonna be a big event next week that I forgot about you. My apologies, Ms. Lopez. Good Lord! Trust me, one secretary will never be enough." He said. "Anyway, My name is Artie Abrams. I was actually looking forward to meeting you later this day but you came in a little early but that's fine." he wheeled himself around his desk to shake my hands. While Artie was wheeling himself around the desk, I took a good look at the man coming towards me. He is a nerdy looking guy maybe because of those eyeglasses that he's wearing. Honestly, this guy looks pretty decent but he needs a little help when it comes to dressing up because who the hell wear an awful looking vest? It reminds me of my butt chinned, self-proclaimed Spanish speaking teacher back in high school.

As much as I hate it I shook his hands, " Yeah, I'm sorry, Mr. Abrams but I got some things that needs to be done so I came in a little earlier than expected."

"No worries, Ms. Lopez. It's fine. Come on and take a seat." I went to sit on the chair in front of his desk while he wheeled himself back to his previous position.

"So... I'm not gonna beat around the bush here. I called you because after I've read your story, I instantly liked it. You know some people dont really like lesbian stories because they like to stick with their tradition and some stupid religious belief. But I am not like them. I'm the type who wants to stay as close as reality as possible. So I have a business proposition for you. I want you to work for me as a writer." He stated while looking straight in my eyes. I am expecting for him to say that because when they called me they kind of hinted me about it but hearing it with my own ears is different. It feels great. I feel like for the first time, I managed to accomplish something for myself and for 'her'. "I know this is sudden but I want you to work for me as soon as possible."

"Uhm... I dont know what to say. I mean, that is actually the first story I've ever written. So are you sure you want me to work for you?" I asked.

"Really? This is your first story? Wow! See that talent? I want that. I didn't even recognize that this was your first story had you not mentioned it." He said, "but I am serious Santana. Such talent should not be wasted."

"I'm happy that you liked it but I-"

"Look, I'm not asking for an answer right now. You can think about it but I just want you to know that we need your talent. If you dont wanna stay here in the office, then I can let you work from home." Mr. Abrams said not allowing me to finish my sentence. "Think about it please."

"Okay. I will." I smiled at him. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the offer so I will take my time to think about it because I also dont want to get myself in trouble. I wanna make sure that I am one hundred percent sure of it.

"Good! So,tell me, how did you come with a story like that? It's not a typical love story and it's close to reality as well." Mr. Abrams probed.

"You're right. It's not a typical story because it's not just a product of one's imagination. That story happened in real life." I say in a hushed voice.

"Really? I'd like to meet the people in this story." He said with excitement gleaming in his eyes. I can't help but smile at his excitement.

"I'm not sure about that, Mr. Abrams. If you don't mind me asking, have you read the ending of the story?"

"Nope. Not yet." He said with his brows furrowed.

"Oh! That's what I thought because if you have read the whole story, you would know about what happened to the characters." I finished while looking at my hands on my lap. "Anyway, I gotta go. I need to meet my Aunt. It was really nice meeting you. And I assure you that I'll think about your offer."

"Yes, please. Thanks for the time. I'll wait for your answer." He said, offering his hand for me to shake again. After I did, I walked out of the office not even glancing at the secretary who was calling my name.

"Oh! There you are. I missed you so much, baby!" An older looking latina said before kissing my right cheek. "Are you eating enough food? Look at you. You're so skinny. I should talk to your Mami. It seems like she's not letting you eat and sleep much."

This is the reason why I love my Aunt Lily. She's so cool and she treats me like her own child maybe because I grew up with her son Santiago. Santiago is my cousin and he is like a brother that I never had. Santiago was 2 years older than me but it never bothered me or him. We we're always together when we were young thus the reason why other people often mistaken us as twins. Back when we were kids, he will always ask my Mom to let me have a sleep over in their house or vice versa. We would always build a fort and play inside it until we pass out from exhaustion. When I reached high school, he even ask Aunt Lily to talk to my Mom and ask her to have me go in the same school as him.

I can still remember the time when we both got drunk during a high school party and both our parents were upset with us and suspend us for a whole month. They didn't let us see each other for a whole week. It was a rough time back then because we grew so close to each other that we can't function properly with each other. After a lot of pleadings and promises to mine and his parents they allowed us again to hang out and enjoy our high school life.

We got separated when he went to college. Santiago is a great basketball player that's why he was offered by UCLA a scholarship. I was sad when he left but he promised that he will always call, text or even video call whenever he's free. And he did. He kept that promise but not until an unfortunate event happened. Santiago was on his second year in UCLA when he had an accident. Their basketball team won a championship and decided to celebrate their victory in a bar. Of course, having a few drinks in one's system was never a good idea especially when you need to drive home. To cut the story short, he lose control of the car that he was driving and it bumped into a truck. That was the saddest and most depressing part of my life. It was like a part of me had been ripped off. I lose interest with my studies and I limited myself from socializing much but it all stopped when she came.

The time when my sassy girl came...

" Santana, are you even listening to me?" My Aunt asked with a slight irritation in his voice.

"Calm down, Ma, I am fine. I just remember something and dont worry Mami takes good care of me." I said smiling at my Aunt's antics.

"Oh, Good! Anyway, remember when I told you that there's someone that I'd like you to meet. She is actually here. She just went to the rest room."

"Ma, is this your way of setting me up on a date? I already told you that I'm fine being single. I dont want to ha-"

"I'm sorry, I took so long. There's a queue in the restroom." A very familiar voice cut me off. I looked at my Aunt who is looking at the person behind me, smiling to that person. Slowly I turned around and that's when our eyes meet. It was just like those stupid, sappy movies that I've seen before where everything seems to slow down, sounds die down and everything is just about me and her.

We were looking into each other's eyes, enjoying the familiarity of it. After a few moments, I roam my eyes to her face that has a pink blush on it and to her blonde hair that is flowing past her shoulders and then to her pink lips. We just stand there and look at each other in shock. Our silence was broken by Aunt Lily.

"Oh, here she is!" Aunt Lily exclaimed as she moved past me and to the girl standing a couple of steps from me. She pull the girl closer probably to introduce us to one another. "Santana, this is the girl that I was talking about. This is Santiago's girlfriend, Brittany. And Brittany this is Santana. She is like Santiago's little sister."

"You're here..." I said in a whisper but Brittany and Aunt Lily heard it.

"Wait, you two know each other?" Aunt Lily asked looking at Brittany and I with confusion smeared all over her face. Brittany was about to answer but I beat her to it.

"We-"

"Yes, I know her. She's... uhm..." I swallowed "She's m-my.. She's my Sassy girl."
