Unfortunately, none of these characters, places, and other things of the sort belong to me. They all belong to Mr. Rick Riordan.
This is part 2 of a many part series. This story began with The Return to War Part 1: Letters to a Dead Man.
Jason
It had been two and a half weeks since Jason had sent his last letter to Leo. Hopefully it wouldn't be too much longer until either a response came, or Leo showed up in person. Of course, if Leo was on his way, he said it would take a month. How the letters were sent so quickly between was beyond Jason, maybe the Olympian Mail Service had some kind of instant delivery mail griffin.
The artifacts were still missing, nowhere to be found. Whoever stole them was smart too, the storage room where the artifacts had been placed was locked with an overly complicated, basically impossible to pick, lock. Jason kept the only key around his neck at all times. The Hecate kids couldn't find any traces of magic, and even Jake Mason couldn't find a backdoor in the lock mechanism.
To be honest, the crime was absolutely baffling.
Jason had also called Annabeth and Percy back to camp, as that they were much more experienced when it came to immortal-level artifacts. However, as that they didn't know what the artifacts were, they couldn't find any answers either.
Hopefully, Jason thought, Leo could figure it out.
September fifth, around noon, Leo arrived.
At first, Jason simply noticed a pinprick of shimmering metal high above the Long Island Sound. As he watched, the pinprick became larger. Within the span of two or three minutes the object had crossed the sound and began circling the camp. Jason left the Zeus table, and a half eaten tofu taco, and walked toward the edge of the mess hall.
The object narrowed its circling to around the marbled cafeteria, and began its descent. Jason couldn't believe what he was seeing, but as the object grew closer, the proof was presented. The object was, as Jason had hoped, a large bronze-plated dragon, and where Festus was, Leo most certainly would be too.
Jason grinned, his friend had arrived.
Landing just outside the mess hall, Leo was seated on his huge bronze dragon, and a girl who looked to be in her early twenties had her arms wrapped around his waist. Leo slid off his draconic steed with ease, landing firmly on his feet, and promptly swiveling back towards his shining mechanical dragon.
The girl slid off as well, and was caught in Leo's extended arms. Leo gently set her on the ground. The two did this with such ease and certainty that Jason realized they must do it all the time.
By this point Jason, Piper, Percy, and Annabeth were all standing near the edge of the marble floor, staring in awe at the spectacle. Jason glanced back and found the entire camp doing the same, Clarisse La Rue had even dropped her sandwich.
Leo uttered a few whispered words to the girl- Calypso, Jason guessed- before giving her a quick kiss and striding towards the group of old friends. As Leo approached, Jason noticed a few things different about his friend. First, he walked with more confidence, little uncertainty in his movement. Second, he was taller, almost six feet in height, rather than the humble 5'6" he was five years ago. Finally, he was calm, his hands held nothing to fidget with, and his fingers didn't twitch about without it. Perhaps death had changed his friend, but Jason thought it more likely to be his growing up, and his five year vacation, just him and Calypso.
Leo stopped just short of the marble, studying the smiling faces of his friends. He especially studied the tearful eyes sported by Piper, and the pained ones Jason bore. He then pulled them both into a huge bear hug. He whispered, "I missed you guys." and pulled away, sporting his mischievous grin.
As the son of Hephaestus walked on into the mess hall, arm around Calypso's waist, Jason noted that his old friend's smile, at least, was still the same.
I hope you enjoyed! I like the ending to this chapter! Next chapter will be from Leo's POV, so that's gonna be fun!
Please leave feedback for me, I would love to know what you guys think of my writing.
