Disclaimer: I don't own Katekyo Hitman Reborn…if I did, it might become Namimori Disciplinary Committee President Hibari! Haha…yea no.

NOTE: Story is set in alternate universe. My very first story, please take care of me.

Oh, and while reading either listen to Hibari's character song, Hitoribocchi no Sadame or Happy Birthday to Me by Epik High.

If you could tell already, this is in honor of Hibari's birthday. Happy Birthday Hibari-sama!! :D

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

Each second struck precisely within the grandfather clock, signifying the passage of time.

Sitting alone in the dark room, Hibari refused to move a muscle, not even to glance at the clock. The moon slyly shifted behind the clouds again, as though afraid of the prefect's murderous glare. But the moon didn't have to worry. Hibari's thoughts were elsewhere than thinking of biting the moon to death…

How long has it been since he has had real human contact? Used to being alone, the brunette had refused further mingling with other people. The herbivores. Weaklings unable to live for long. Each day dying off in swarms. Though he had to hand it to them, the way they reproduced…

Hibari sighed, finally relaxing his tense body. He then stood up and quickly made his way across to the clock.

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

Staring nonchalantly at the hands that crept closer to midnight, he thought back to the previous afternoon. His secretary had called him, wondering if he wanted to take tomorrow off. What a joke. To think he, Hibari Kyoya, would take a day off?

"But sir," she had interjected, "isn't it your birthday tomorrow?"

Birthday? He had laughed. A cold and bitter laugh that chilled even himself.

The secretary, very much startled, immediately mumbled an apology and wished him a good evening.

He had already hung up.

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

How long had he lived his life like this? In solitude, in silence, in serenity. He was fine with the way things were. After all, he was fated to be alone. Eternally.

Those who had tried to get near him were bitten to death. Those who had crowded near him were bitten to death. Those who were weak were bitten to death.

Yet he was tired of his life. It was harder than he had anticipated, being immortal.

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

He thought of those years and years of watching the people around him age and die. He hadn't heard a "Congratulations" or "Happy Birthday" in a while…and it wasn't like Hibari to start singing to himself.

Instead, taking a sip of tea, Hibari reflected on his past birthdays.

And as the clock struck midnight, he whispered "Happy Birthday."

But no one heard.

Only the moon acknowledged him as it slowly crept out from behind the clouds.
