A Certain Shade of Green

Lady Lemon Drop

Bright, vibrant emerald green.

It seemed to be the only colour in her life. Even in her earliest memories green had been the one colour that stood out, following her as she moved through her life. When she was a child, it had been the colour of the grass, trees, and mountains surrounding her house, her favourite colour.

By the time she'd gotten to Hogwarts, it had been the colour of her brother's best friend's eyes the, then boy, who she'd had a crush on. It was the colour of the Dark Mark that hovered above the Lightening Struck Tower the night Albus Dumbledore died, it was the colour of the lightening, and the clouds the night Voldemort destroyed Hogwarts without actually being there to do the damage.

Nowadays it was the colour she associated with death. She'd lost her brothers, her parents, her friends, all in a war she'd never anticipated being part of in such a great way, never to have played the part of such an important role. The only people she had left in the world were Hermione Granger and her boyfriend, Harry Potter, and even his eyes were that same piercing green.

It was all she could think about as she knew death drew close. Those green eyes, and how she was glad she wouldn't have to look into them and see the pain there when he found out what had happened. That was Hermiones fate.

That sinister green was also the colour of the Avada Kedavra curse, she remembered, as death drew nearer. She was backed into a wall, weak, wandless and alone. And that's when he struck.

Lord Voldemort stood as an unbreakable force at the end of the hallway and smirked at her mockingly as he raised his wand. "Say your goodbyes, Ginny Weasley."

Turning her head away and closing her arms around her stomach, protectively, though she knew it would do no good. When she died so would it. With the image of her boyfriend dancing across her subconscious, she closed her eyes. "Goodbye, Harry." She whispered, admitting defeat.

That same vivid green invaded her senses, flashing before her closed eyes and bleeding into her prone form as she slipped away.
