Tempe was exhausted. She had been at the lab since five that morning, almost eighteen hours, working on a corpse that had come in from a shallow grave near the beach. Parc Jean Drapeau had been the accident site of a rather horrific plane crash just days earlier, and bodies that had floated to the bottom of the water were starting to rise to the surface. Tempe had already worked on two bodies, and had been hoping that she would be able to get some rest this weekend, but it looked like her plans were going to have to wait. Katy was coming down in two weeks, and Tempe had put in for a few vacation days with LaManche. He had agreed straight away, seeing as how she never asked for time off from her work. But now, all she wanted was to finish the case and get away for a while. She wasn't expecting anything to happen that night.

Tempe walked through the door to the 'stinky room', pulling on her gloves as she went. When she looked up, she wasn't expecting to see anyone there, so she was surprised to see a man touching her skeleton. Thinking it was Ryan, since he had just called to say he was on his way down, she quietly walked up to him and kissed his hair. The man turned around, and Tempe screamed. She turned on her heel, running towards the door, but she didn't make it. He reached her easily and grabbed her, pulling her back into the room and locking the only door.

"Get off me!" yelled Tempe.

The guy didn't answer her. He stuck his face in hers and she inhaled the smell of burnt flesh. As if it wasn't a shock seeing someone that reminded her of Freddy Krueger, the smell was intoxicating enough to make her hold her breath until she passed out.

Ryan started running towards the morgue when he heard a scream. He pulled his gun out of its holster and pushed through the double doors in front of him. Looking through the window into the work area, he gasped. Tempe was on the floor, and someone was standing over her, a scalpel in their hand, inches away from her chest. Without even bothering to check the door, Ryan shot the window and then shot again, hitting the man in the back. Breaking open the door, Ryan ran in, moving the guy away from Tempe.

"Tempe? Tempe? Wake up!" he yelled.

Tempe stirred but didn't open her eyes.

"Brennan!" yelled Ryan again.

This time, Tempe opened her eyes, looking around in confusion for a few seconds before she noticed him there.

"Andy? What happened?"

"I don't know. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine Andy. Who is he?"

"I don't know, but he's dead. He can't hurt you now." Ryan picked Tempe up and hugged her. He was glad she was okay.

The End
